This is an interesting wine before you even open the bottle. Karas is made in Armenia, a small nation in the South Caucuses region, landlocked about equidistant between the Black and Caspian Seas, sharing borders with Georgia, Azerbaijan, Iran, and Turkey, and formerly a part of the Soviet Union. The winery itself sits within sight of Mount Ararat (of Noah and his Ark fame), about 30 miles west from Yerevan, the capital. The wine I medium garnet, medium brightness in …

Drinkable, and not overly sweet. But very simple, not much to it.

Bløt men saftig frukt, medium pluss syre, medium minus tannin.

From The Washington Post: "Wow. This modestly priced wine tastes like something twice as expensive, maybe more. It is racy and energetic, with black- and red-fruit flavors, great body and a smooth, lingering finish. Try it with burgers or steaks, stir fries or stews. Amaze your friends with a stylish selection from a country whose wine they haven’t tried before."

The wine is clear and bright with a deep ruby colour. The nose is clean and in a developing stage, showing pronounced intensity aromas of ripe black currants, dark plums, black olives, liquorice, chocolate and cloves. The wine is dry in the mouth with a medium acidity. It has high coarse tannins and a high slightly warm alcohol. It has a full body and medium+ intensity flavours. The finish is medium+. It is a very good quality wine. It has …

Cradle of Wine Civilization (SF Wine School) : Moderate plus concentration ruby in the glass. Weird plasticky floral burnt cherry, manure. In the mouth it feels really over-oaked. M body, m alc, m acid, m tannins. Ripe, but the fruit is masked in oak. Score: around 8.
