Domaine Jacques Carillon Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Referts

Wide-open for business with crystalline and pure orchard fruit with a touch of fatness from the vintage, but plenty of fresh acidity to hold it all together. In a youthful peak drinking window.

Day 1: Tight, coiled, crystalline, minerally, citric, intense and run through with electric currents. Day 2: some richness arrives out to balance the still abundant brightness, but there's more fruit evident (lemon oil) and a touch of creaminess, both of which make this even better. Thrilling, long, lingering, gingery finish.

Second the note of ACYSO, quite fat and ripe (not helped by an energetic bottle of Labet we had next to it), not a lot of acidity and a touch of bitterness on the finish.

A good, not great bottle of Carillon, which honestly is a bit of an outlier. Comes across a little fatter and riper than most and missing some of the acid/mineral cut that I want in the wines. The fruit is plush and rounded if not as apparent as the size of the palate might suggest, and though there is no sweetness here, the fruit profile is quite strong.

Lovely style with mineral and fruit.

Phenomenal acidity for a 2015, this is rich but still very linear, with some lovely fruit and a bit of chalk on the finish. A touch better than the Perrieres, imho, but a great wine. Did better than the 2018 Bachelet Monnot Referts served next to it (which was itself a very good wine).

Great richness and intensity of white peach fruit. There’s a line of fine and minerally acidity. It has great drive and a long chalky finish.

Classic Puligny, white peach…white flowers. It has a solid mineral base and good shape in the mouth. It is quite floral.
