4th of July Stellar Wines (My House) : Very interesting wine that I would not buy but appreciated it overall. Iodine, spice, blackberries, minerals and a touch of heat. Big wine and powerful.

Opened along side the 2009 Cobos Cab Sauv this was good, but seemed a bit overtly bright especially relative to the fruit. Guessing this has seen better days or this was a weird bottle, just was not humming.

Tasting in Miami (Ken's Castle) : PnP - Brought this down to Miami because my niece loves this wine (and I like it a lot too). I have had better bottles of this wine, but it still showed well. Lots of fruit and tertiary goodness! Dark fruit with anise, chocolate, coffee tobacco and spice. Silky smooth with a full, luscious mouthfeel. Solid 94 tonight.

2022 Wine Tasting!! They were very close in ratings but here is how I think they shook out: 1) Clos Du Val 2) Arietta 3) Vino Cobos 4) Chateau Monbosquet 5) Cayuse Syrah Armada Super fun afternoon!!

Unlike the last bottle this one was pruned with a distinct olive brine note. Offensively thick and borderline undrinkable. Possibly an off bottle.

Pop and pour. The high alcohol is definitely integrated along with any tannin or acid. This was singing from the start with explosive blueberry, vanilla extract, cassis liqueur, anise... Like candy but still structured. Not sure about the price point/qpr but when not on my dime a nice drinker.

I loved this wine two, three years ago (96+points) but my taste changed. Too much concentration and extract. The alcohol (15,5%) is well integrated. This is not the problem and it is still young. Mostly primary notes as blueberry, plums and bramble. Good acidity structure. Ripe tannins. At least 10 more years ahead. In the finish some tobacco leaves and milk chocolate. only 0,5 hour of decantation. Needs moer time. 93+. Last bottle

This Malbec was deep and rich but suffered from an overwhelming alcohol burn. By the third day the alcohol had calmed a bit and the wine was much more enjoyable. It was deep purple with complex notes of black fruit spice and coffee. It could have been a great wine without the alcoholic burn.

Occasional tasting group (By TBa @ WN Top South America plus some extra's.) : The bouquet consists of pure alcohol and glue. On the palate the same. This must be a faulty bottle.

A lot of fruit, red berries, plums, concentrated and dense, no decantation, unfortunately. Fullbodied with 15,5%. Alcohol noticeable, missing elegance and typicity, long but one-dimensional finish, the wood and fruit is dominating evrything. maybe more balanced in a few years. I had this wine at Cobos winery was impressed then. Today too powerful and dense, 91-92

From Magnum signed by Paul Hobbs. Truly great Malbec. Mated well with herb crusted rack of lamb. Deep dark and complex with light roast coffee beans, plumbs, blueberry, creme de casis, graphite, and violets on the nose. Palate hits hard with full blown glycerine, bramble fruits, squid ink, violets, and a nice sanguine note. More complex than I give it credit for.

Wow! An amazing Malbec. Very expressive showing layers of flavors and nuances by the hour. It packs great balance of red fruit and black fruit (fig, raspberry, plum, prune, blackberry). It took a good 4+ hours to completely flourish.

Lovely again. powerful, mighty, plums, cassis, dark berries, alcohol well integrated, at his beginning, decanted for 2 hours, it could be more, long finish, tannins ripe and fine grained, it is not a bordeaux, but well balanced in his way, next bottle in 5 years

Great wine, especially Malbec, I like Malbec, I like Cobos and I like this wine, firstly, only 2 hours decantation, getting much better after 5 hours, the first impression is ripe plums, dark berries, a little bit cassis, vanilla, some well integrated oak, a hint of tobacco, espresso and later some milk chocolate, for me potential more than 10 years, long finish, the only critic point is that compared to a great Cal Cab or Bx is that in the …

One of the best Malbec's ever tasted. The purity of the fruit was unreal. Didn't have a chance to give the bottle any air or decant, was slightly concerned about pop and pour, but it was stunning right out of the bottle.

There are no words to do this wine justice. This is the 4th vintage I have had, and while not the most powerful of them, still has more flavor in one sip than most wines do in a case.

An opaque glass staining dark wine with a velvety surface and bright crimson hues on the edges. Very expressive on the nose boasting figs, plums, blueberries, raspberry, licorice, lavender, incense, espresso, tar, and Indian spices. Velvety on the palate with intense flavors of plums, blackberries, raspberries, blueberries leading to a dense midpalate that exhibits refreshing acidity as well as flavors of licorice, dark cherries, dark chocolate, and roasted coffee. The finish is long and elegant, cool dark fruit flavors intermingle …

This week has been a Malbec week. Two nights ago, popped the '07 Arrowood and although aromatically correct, it was lacking any notable mid-palate and had a somewhat shallow finish (86). Tonight was a different story but in all fairness, we had the creme de la creme lineup. The (Hobbs) Cobos was Cali-modern with a huge, chunky, fruit entry; a real nice mid-palate complete with a fruity richness and ripe, fruit-dominant finish (90-92). The final bottling was an uber-exclusive, produced …

This bottle needed to be open for a few hours before finally yeilding some pleasure. Classy french oak nose, precise fruit, elegant and balanced lushness giving way to large drying tannin. At the price point this was frankly more than a bit disappointing.
