18x DRC : It’s not every day you get to dive into this many DRCs in one sitting. The Domaine’s trademark elegance and balance were on full display, especially in the structural harmony of several wines. That said, I do think the more recent vintages have an edge, showing more precision and finesse compared to these mostly late 2000s examples we tasted. The stars of the lineup were the Corton Charlemagne 2019 at 96pts leading the charge with superb complexity, …

Leather, iron, earth. In the palate a good structure. Relatively balanced, with a solid body. Very pleasant to drink, would pair well with some truffle pasta.

Cedar, overripe fruits but more on the acidic than the sweet side, vegetal, slight cauliflower. A bit rounder in the nose, more wet wood, but the structure is still off for me. The acidity is not balanced enough.

Gereiftes Rubin; würzige, rotfruchtige Nase, deutlich Sauerkirschen, Leder, Süssholz; am Gaumen gereift, auf dem Peak, weitgehend abgeschmolzenes Tannin, markante Säure, gute Länge, rotfruchtiges Finish. Wunderbar zu trinken, wenn auch nicht gross. Austrinken.

DRC Dinner 2011-2018 (Rest. Widder Zürich) : The 2006 Duvault-Blochet remains an earthy, brooding wine, still carrying the slightly rustic hallmarks of the vintage. Aromas lean toward the brown spectrum - wood spice, damp soil, a touch of leather. There’s honesty here, even if not refinement.

2002 DRC Assortment tasting in blind 2002 DRC Vosne Romanee 1er cru Cuvée Duvault-Blochet- Notably a notch below the Echezeaux with a slightly more earthy profile. Good on its own but shy to the rest by some margin. 91-92pt - 2002 DRC Echezeaux- It had the most perfumed red fruit profile but also the lightest palate. 93pt - 2002 DRC Grands Echezeaux- Gamey, intense, and underbrush. It had a silky and long palate. The most fleshy wine. Biggest surprise of …

Excited to try this rare 1er cru from DRC and did not dissapoint. Very floral nose. Soft stem and red fruit finish of slightly burnt caramel.

Fresh but very big. Clean bottle, youthful, green, stemmy. Palate is more typically DRC than the nose. Darker fruited. Not completely spellbinding but certainly solid.

Quite chunky with muted nose, not showing the typical DRC sensation. Palate was a bit four-squared but undoubtedly DRC because of it stemminess. Possibly not the best kept bottle. I would love to revisit.

This was a beautiful bottle, drinking right in the zone. Taking on a little beef stock and Hoisin development. There’s pure cherry fruit and plenty of flora. It is bright and vivid, with excellent minerally detail. It is silky, builds through the palate and fans out. Length is terrific.

As a few years back I have not been impressed by this wine at all. It lacks the usual complexity and elegance of DRC wines, especially in a vintage that was kind to red wines. Light bodied, and somewhat incomplete. Overall a decent wine, but a real letdown considering the maker and the vintage.

It's been a long time coming - my intro to DRC. Slow-ox for 90 minutes before service - upon first taste, we elected to decant the remainder; a bit of tannic roughness right at the tail end of the finish that needed a bit more air to resolve. In the glass, pale rose at the rim, shading to a deeper, somewhat opaque dark berry red at the core. On the nose, a fascinating, focused mix of crushed cherries and rose …

Christmas dinner - this was a great bottle of wine. Spices, dark and red fruits, so much balance with so much complexity. Texturally this is classic DRC - just velvet in the glass. Doesnt have the depth of other DRC wines but this is its own thing and the DRC fingerprints are very recognizable.

Lovely nose with tons of spices, strawberry notes, forest flavors, and underwood. The stems seem quite obvious but I like it. Good acidity on the palate with noticeable oak influence, more strawberries, red cherries, and forest notes. Long finish. A lovely wine that still feels very young and especially so on the palate. While the oak and stems are obvious, it doesn't feel unbalanced, just in need of more time. I would hold this for at least another 5 years. …

Top 1ers for AK's birthday : Assemblage from DRC’s GC plots that didn’t make the cut. Still very Vosne but more masculine and blue-fruited than the Arnoux alongside. Rather stemmy that I felt this was almost a textbook Dujac. Weaker vintage showed here as the tannins weren’t as refined and more drying compared to the A-L alongside, but will bet on this improving with time given the massive concentration and quality of underlying material here.

Vosne-Romanée Mega-Tasting (SommCellars) : The 2002 Cuvée Duvault Blochet from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti exudes a depth of tertiary complexity that captivates the senses. The aromatics immediately impress, with layers of spice, wet leaves, and underbrush that weave seamlessly with earthy tones of mushroom and a hint of pepper. There’s an almost foresty character, with subtle notes of damp earth and a touch of autumnal decay that adds intrigue. On the palate, this wine is incredibly expressive and full of …

A little less expressive on the nose than the 2006 G. Mugneret N-S-G Les Boudots tasted before. Mix of red and darker fruit notes, spices, minerality. Lots of depth and elegance. On the palate wonderfully harmonious - there is good structure, but the tannins are hardly noticeable. Lovely fruit, perfectly integrated acidity. Spicy, mineral, still a litte tight towards the impressively persistent finish. Not showy at all, elegant and powerful at the same time. Magnificent. Drink or keep. 95-97

So much elegance. Benefitted from air/decant. Spices, red and dark fruits, texture is to die for, so much power and finesse. A kaleidoscope of scents and flavors continually changing and evolving. This was better than the last bottle by a hair. More complex and complete at this stage. At peak with a long ride ahead in the zone.

Weekend in Michigan with Wine; 8/5/2023-8/6/2023 (Asian Spice House - Buchanan MI) : I haven't tasted this wine in over a decade and tonight's bottle was (by far) the best it has ever been for me. Fresh and mature red berries and cherries come in and out of focus over the course of several hours with both sweet and savory spice. Good enough weight, great length. Really fantastic bottle, even with fully soaked-through cork.

Magnifique. 94-95 Typical DRC colour. Nose is gorgeous, complex, a touch of rose but mostly layers of spices, flowers, red fruit. Palate goes along the same lines, finesse and elegance, yet still some power …

My first time with RC. Moderate density and concentration. Nose and palate both very complex, like a firework of aromas. When starting to identify one another one pops up, sour cherries come back and fourth. Already shows some tertiarty aromas (mosty earth-like). The balance and elegance are just extraordinary. To me more a piece of art than a bottle of wine so scoring would be pointless

Leroy Field Trip; 2/11/2022-2/14/2022 : 01653/7899. Opened at noon, served at 6. I’m not sure if this really needed all the air, but it was a beautifully perfumed 1er weight wine. Classic stem, reticent perfume, some roses, so bright with wonderful hue of coolness, true to its vintage. Consensus is this wine is declassified for a reason, the weight is no match for the other cuvées. With time in glass some bitterness emerged as well. 93

The nose is amazing, roses, floral, spices, gorgeous fruit, so complex and elegant. First taste of DRC; this wine for me lived up to the hype of the Domaine; the nose was exquisite, lots of Vosne spices, ripe red berry fruits, floral tea notes. Explosive and delightful to smell. The palate was a vision of harmony; deep and intense, yet ethereal and lifted; everything flowing beautifully. The finish was long. I was prepared to be disappointed, but thankfully I wasn't!

I was skeptical of some of the recent notes indicating this might be ready to go, but it is indeed in a good spot and has mellowed and shed its tannins much quicker than I would have figured possible. The aromas segue from green stems on opening to the classic Vosne cinnamon spice with more air.
