Newman C, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru

På en fin plats Mogen men med bra frukt kvar.

Eu Ming's Birthday (Bee Heong Palace, Singapore) : Decent, but a clear step behind a few of others Grand Crus on show. The nose had a pleasant, if a bit oaky bouquet of red cherries, strawberries, earth, spice and an edge of vanilla. Nice. The palate was significantly weaker than the nose promised though. Quite noticeably oaked, with more vanilla flavours, and simple notes of red cherries and strawberries laced with fresh acidity and fine tannins, leading to a mineral …

Awesome nose: billows of red fruited pinot and fecund earth. Awesome palate: tart cherries with a sprinkle of sugar, softening but not sweetening; deep leaves, earth and minerals on the finish; an impressive density of flavor. Awesome body: power without weight dances through the mouth, elegantly. Awesome wine.

Dark fruited with oaky sweetness and a firm structure. Noting flabby abt it but I prefer if it had a bit of softness. Nothin to complain abt but this was more internationally styled.

Burgundy 2011 Day 5: Visit to Domaine Newman (Beaune, Burgundy) : Pretty decent as red Burgs go, but unlike the 2006 Mazis that preceded it (which had clearly Grand Cru pedigree), this was a bit of a letdown for its terroir. The nose was nice enough - lots of fruit here, with expressive scents of blueberries, plums and dark cherries spiced with a floral touch.
