Famille Perrin / Perrin & Fils Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise

In the final throes of studying for my WSET Level 3 exam comes the single page of text devoted to Fortified Muscats- well I had to try one. This particular bottle came in 375ml and costs $25. The wine is medium gold and has watery legs even though it sports a 15% ABV since it's has been fortified. It has a pronounced nose, ie I get a whiff when approaching the glass. Marvellous pairing with the foie gras entrée; floral notes, lemon zests, orange marmelade, excellent weight and density and more freshness than I expected. Would also be terrific with fruit pie deserts. Lovely for drinking now. - 90 points

Ah yes...such a fantastic way to either open a nice dinner as apéritif or to finish on a high note...sweetness is not too extreme and what makes this absolutely marvellous is the nice bouquet that immediately brings you to the south of France...Lavender, citrus, etc...quite complex, actually...be sure to drink this at the right temperature (very cold indeed...)
