Wildly tannic, a bit one-dimensional.

Tuscany Masterpieces (K&L Wine Merchants, Hollywood) : Medium ruby, clearing edges. Aromas of macerated cherry with rose hip, wild herb, crushed rock, and peppery spice. Expressive ripeness on the palate, with black cherry and red apple skin fruit along with well-integrated red florals and savory spice. Round and refined density, succulent acidity, with full ripe tannins closing with lengthy zesty dark fruit

Suckling Wines of the World: the two San Polino wines were probably my favorite amongst the Brunello di Montalcino wines tasted and amongst the best wines I tasted over two days. Great typicity with elegance and power and already drinking well but with the best to come.

Helichrysum has a lot going on with more of a brooding nose than the marroneto it was drank next to. The fruit here was a little darker, it's less extreme in its florality (though still notable), but with more lovely herbal notes and some woodiness. Perhaps a touch of mushroom. Young and bursting with things that aren't quite ready to fully open up, but still elegant and with very fine tannins. Finding it hard to rank this in the moment. …

Handford 2019 Brunello tasting Only the 2nd wine in the lineup and already hitting a superstar. One of my top 4 for the evening. All the characteristics of the normale, but with more power, depth and intensity. Also adds very nice wild herb and spice. I returned to this quite a few times. Great wine.

A really good example of what time in the bottle can do to a wine like Brunello. Tannins are starting to resolve but by no means invisible. Gentle grip but not a tannic beast. Loads going on with the nose; orange peel, cherries, almost a brandied cherry note rather than fresh cherry, warm spices like cinnamon and nutmeg (but not 'spicy' per se). Palate is generous with nice acidity to keep things fresh. This is definitely drinking really well right …

Decanted for 3.5 hours. Better near the end. Have 2 more. Will decant 4.5 hours. Barnyard smell was not as pronounced as I had hoped but still a distinctive Brunello. Tannins were omnipresent but not overwhelming. 1 minute plus finish. Overall, a great brunello from a less than spectacular ok year Wish I had bought more.

Wow, what a beautiful wine. Moderate firm body yet elegant and smooth. Good and drinkable as well as pairing well with food. I’d imagine there are years left on this vintage to enjoy

I have to confess I love Brunello. This wine was voluptuous and expressive but yet wrapped tightly in its acid structure. Dark cherry, raspberry, blackberry, earthy, a little nettle. Even just a little wild in one sense but gorgeous. The bottle (which followed a truly superb Bordeaux GC) was knocked down in a flash by the small gathering.

Although drinking good now its tight and holding back. Good tannins should lead to further evolution of the taste and aroma. I am going to wait to 2014 most likely.
