Too sweet. Golden. Not what I expected from Alsatian Pinot Gris

Paired in a side-by-side with a California Pinot Gris and a cheese and meat spread. This was...sweet. Way sweeter than I expected. It paired nicely with the blue (a Gorgonzola Mountain) but overpowered the lighter cheeses. It wasn't quite a desert wine, but it definitely wasn't a standard pinot gris. I didn't hate it. It was okay for what it actually was. Just not what I had planned.
