Some Wines from the 2018 La Paulée Grand Tasting of 2015 Burgundy (The Fairmont, San Francisco) : Wonderful spice on the nose. Medium weight. Lovely melange of soil and ripe red fruit. Excellent acidity, lingering finish. Some may find it sweet, but if it continues to grow in complexity and depth, this should be a superb Grand Cru effort.

La Paulée de San Francisco - Grand Tasting (The Fairmont - San Francisco CA) : Tasting, brief note. More black vs red cherry with a very ripe and lush character, so fat and fun. Charming and rich spice as well. Lots of structure in the near background. Long and dense finish. Still a bit of pronounced new oak, but that will integrate beautifully in a few years. 93-95 point potential.

Friday Lunch (Restaurant 't Perceel *) : Profound bouquet of crisp dark fruit and elegant spice. Ample, layered palate, richly textural with velvety tannins, succulent black fruit with hints of earthiness and powerful spices on the finish.

The king of the cellar, the Grands Echézeaux, is a stellar success this year, and as Maxime and I spent a while chatting over this wine it got more time to open in the glass. Notes of dark cherry, plum, peony and dark spice introduce a primary, full-bodied wine with a deep core, lovely concentration and amplitude, and a long, penetrating finish. This is as usual more tight-knit and dense than the Echézeaux, and will really require a long snooze …
