100% Viognier, aged for 18 to 24 months in predominantly old oak barrels. Medium-deep yellow-green color. The nose feels quite restrained and rather underwhelming with light aromas of dusty oils, some odd cheesy tones reminiscent of Brie or other white-rind cheese, light creamy notes, a little bit of damp wool, a hint of mealy yellow apple and a touch of honeycomb. Overall the nose just doesn't give much. The wine feels rich, somewhat substantial and slightly oily on the palate, …

During a tasting dinner of the Pipette group. Served blind from the neighboring table. Unfortunately oxidized with some TCA as well.

Chateau Grillet Tasting + after.... (De Gustibus + Hutong) : Crisp, green-apple, acid, fresh. This was actually pretty nice to drink after it had had enough time in the glass to come around (started off a bit more musty and wasn't 100% sure it would be ok but definitely came around).

better fill, lighter colour, fresher nose than last bottle; no hint of oxidation but otherwise similar, though finer and more subtle. slowly improves with airing into a very elegant wine.

low fill. deep gold. mature, spicy, baked fruit nose with touches litchee, lanolin, vanilla, muscat; caramelized rich fruity, slightly nutty, taste, still with touch vibrant acidity; lucscious texture; superb balance. smoky edge with suggestion faded flowers emerges in nose with air, a bit like a fine sherry. vibrant, long finish with slow fade. riper than typical for grillet during this era.

Golden, brassy look with low tearing. Cellary, musky, moss, paprika, carmex and seaweed aroma possibly raisin/plum. The taste is powerful and raisiny with mid-acidity with clear finesse of wine-making craftmanship. Pure mature Viognier flavor you will recognize it - lingers for a 20 seconds.

Dark golden with a brown rim. Very mature. Light but aromatic floral nose with an aged sherry character. Delicate, subtle honeyed palate. Elegant flavours with dried apricot and a nuttiness in the finish.

Very funky nose after opening, combination of fruit and milk. Taste is slightly off, odd fruity, it really does not appear to be a 27 year old wine. After decanting, the wine develops beautifully during a few hours. We started drinking too early, the last glass is stilish, silky, concentrated with difficult to describe fruit tones.

What a treat. Medium golden color with a very vibrant nose of litchee and roses (I would say honeysuckle, but I have no idea what that smells like). On the palate, very expressive and full with a very long finish. What a mistake that I did not buy more.

Lovely viognier character and amazing complexity of May blossom, flowers, Provencal herbs, wonderfully pure vanilla, honey, acacia, apricot, muscat, baked apple; full and smooth, dry but flirting with mildness, lovely acidity, silky smooth, buttery, juicy, harmonious, good weight; fabulous length. Stuning wine. At peak but will age.
