This off the wall red blend inspires a geography lesson. It comes from coastal Istria, Croatia's triangular peninsula that extends directly south from the far north of the Adriatic Sea. Its ridiculous label featuring a flying pig was contextually appropriate pairing with the smorgasbord of meats served at Svartengrens in Stockholm, Sweden. The nose is -- surprise, surprise -- dominated by cured meats, mustard seed, and perhaps a bit of red pepper flake. Highly unique combinations of leather and animals, …

(Brief notes from "Sortimentsprovning at Barsac Wine Bar, Gothenburg with Prästgårdens Vinhandel, Portofolio Wines, Wine Waves, Armano's Wine, Fine Wines Sweden and I Vino dello Stivale") Second time tasting this wine and this makes me realize that the bottle from 2016-01-16 definitely where flawed. Youthful nose with loads of fresh black fruit, red berries, violets, lavender and slight funk. Medium bodied and juicy on the palate. Medium(+) acidity and medium tannins. Kind of like a good Beaujolais. Maybe a bit …

Lack of fruit. Dull and not very interesting. Is it the bottle or the mood?

No fun. Seemed to have aged a bit prematurely. Raisin fruit and vegetable stew. Awkward on the palate with a lack of fruit and too much acidity.

Slightly hazy, medium intensity, garnet color. It has shows hints of brown and some sediment. Almost fully developed with medium intensity. Raisin, dried cherry, cassis, wet soil and tobacco. Bone dry on the palate with medium body, medium(-) tannin and medium, a bit tart, acidity. Medium intensity with cassis, raisin and wet soil. Medium(-) finish. Not much to get excited about here. We had some concerns that this bottle was not 100% correct since it was so developed and therefore …

Visiting Roxanich winery (Istria, Croatia) : Tasted at the winery. A nice light, easy wine, fruity and basic. Good for a lunch on a hot day served slightly chilled, I think.

Winery's public tasting. Cabernet Sauvignon-Borgonja blend. Very dark, deep red and purple hued body that leaves medium legs. Aroma of sweetish dark berries. Fine, fruity flavor, lightly sweet, very simple, yet effective with acidity as a light counterweight, but building up towards finish. Medium to fuller in body with soursweet finish, not particularly long. Straightforward wine, tasteful, unpretentious, misses some elegance but it's an enjoyable hedonistic nectar.
