Bouquet: Very aromatic though refined and with understated earth, tobacco, smokey wood with roasted dried cherry aromas. Body and texture: Nicely integrated, medium body with moderately smooth mouth feel. Flavor: Tobacco, earth, licorice, red cherry with some sweet spice (sandalwood possibly) that had a family resemblance to cinnamon. Finish showed dried red cherry plus roasted flavors and some subtle coffee notes. Approximately 30-35 second length. Overall: Outstandingly complex nose and balanced, nicely integrated fruit, oak, and acidity. The tannins and …

The Italian Wine Masters (Hilton, 1335 Avenue of the Americas, New York) : This showed a gorgeous floral nose of violets with crushed wild berries. On the palate, I found rich red fruit on a full structured frame with herbal tea notes and spice. This wine was mouth-filling and slowly tapered off into a finish of red fruits and dark chocolate.

Bummer that this was "corked". We had this at a tasting at the winery in Sep-05 and really enjoyed this. We also got to taste a 1993 version of the wine and it was splendid. So I figured this could go 8-12 years. It had that musty smell that never went away but the underlying wine was very good with sour cherries and mushrooms. We were "thirsty" and drank it anyway to celebrate our 29th anniversary.

[Cafe Boulud] Cranberry color. One the nose, gamey, berries, and leather. On the palate concentrated saddleleather, berries, and plum. I have had the regular bottling a number of times and this is more full-bodied with firmer tannins.
