La Paulée de San Francisco - Grand Tasting (The Fairmont - San Francisco CA) : Tasting, brief note. From 3L. So ripe and rich but earthy and wonderfully balanced. Elegant textures are surprising and charming for the 2003 vintage.

This wine is now hitting its full stride. Beautiful nose of blue and black fruits, spice and a hint of animal. The fruit is still present, but overripe or roasted fruits are not a part of the picture. The texture is silky. I've held this bottle since release.

Quite restrained right now, nowhere near Grand Cru status as far as I'm concerned.

Really young color first contact, i am really drowned in this wine. Lovely redcurrants,strawberries,earthy,spicy,changing to cherries,roses. Integrated tannins, good acidity,wow-structure,and long spicy,easy hot ,aftertaste.

CT blind group tasting at David's (Enfield, CT) : No idea whether or not this is a representative bottle, as it's dominated by awkward reductive and tarry aromas that distract from everything else and never fade even with some vigorous swirling.

TTTG Blind (DB) : It was the better of the two 2003 Burgundies in the flight. Some thought it was faulty. I agree to the extent that 2003 in Burgundy was faulty.

Dinner w/ Chris @ Heartland. This is a very ripe Clos Vougeot, exhibiting almost New World-like aromatics of black fruit, anise, cinnamon, and baking spices. The palate is more restrained, showing a wide-open spectrum of minerals and dark fruit in a medium-weight, fruit-forward and expressive frame. Does not cross over the line into New World sweet over-ripeness. Quite tasty and complex, although far from a classical expression of this vineyard.
