Pretty is not a word I use often with Sangiovese, but this was a very pretty bottle of wine. All the typical Chianti aromatic and flavor notes apply, but what struck me was the elegant texture. It still had grip, but was never drying. Chianti is 100% a food wine for me, but this was just as engaging on its own after dinner.

The fruit is lovely, ripe but fresh and there’s a nice floral lift. Unlike me, it’s a bit skinny in the middle, quite lean and there is fine tannin on the finish. Good but maybe needs a little more time to fully harmonise. Try again 2026/7

Floral, minty, garrigue, sage, thyme and blueberry on a wonderfully distinctive and complex nose. Deft balance on the palate. Fresh, strong and with a touch of peppermint spice. Still assertive tannins. Long and cool ending.

Consumed over three nights, it (L.A123119) was best on night two, and hardly changed even on night three, so it's got lots of life in it, drink to 2035. The wine has structure, a medium-light body, balance and elegance, a good food wine. It's also a perfect 13.5% ABV and it has a nice mineral finish. But I was frankly surprised and disappointed by the lack of aromatics.

I didn’t realize it when I grabbed this in the cellar, but this was our last bottle ☹️ I didn’t buy enough. This is delicious. It comes across as a lighter weight Chianti, yet it is packed with flavor. Cherry, anise, and just a touch of earth. I am really trying to be selective when buying wine, but I won’t hesitate to buy more Castell’in Villa when I come across it.

Popped and poured. The 2015 Castell’In Villa CC pours a bright ruby with medium+ viscosity, no staining of the tears and no signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is developing, with notes of tart cherries, some ripe BO (but I kinda like it?), spiced meat, dried herbs and dusty earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long, tart and has some great …

Unfortunately we are getting down to the last couple bottles of this in our cellar. As this opens up, it becomes more youthful and the tannin emerges. There is a nice combination of savory flavors, along with darker toned fruit. Delicious with pizza tonight.

Ready to go from the minute it was opened. Strikingly fresh, it cleanses the palate at the same time it delivers bright red fruit a vibrant blast of freshly picked herbs, and just the right amount of tannic structure. Lots of fun to drink and a good value for $25.

Very light style of Sangiovese, served to me blind I would have guessed Nebbiolo (due to the sweet touch of fruit), the balance could have been a bit better, not at the level of their wonderful 2016.

Nice on-point Chianti/Sangiovese. Dusty cherry (or however one describes that typically Sangiovese red fruit), fresh without being tart, healthy tannic grip without being drying. More linear than round in the mid-palate, mid-weight, minerality on the finish. More of a food wine, as Chianti should be, more solid than exciting in sum.

I thought the vintage was a safe bet, on a top Chianti Classico producer. Instead, the the wine nver really opens up, changes smells continuously but never being really intense. On the palate it takes around 3 hours to open up a little, but what it is, it's not so balanced, strong acidity, tannins that are present but not integrated. I hope it's just a wrong vintage, but definitely not motivating to buy more of the annata especially with rising …

And now batting 3rd in today's Chianti lineup, the 2015! Drinking great (and consistently so), this is a vintage where I really should have purchased two cases, because it also has the feel of a wine that will continue to age effortlessly over the next decade plus. Great persistence through the finish - really the complete package in terms of what I look for in a Chianti Classico.

My first bottle of this seemed off, showing some VA and funk. This bottle was textbook Chianti, and the '15 vintage played really well here--giving more than the usual amount of mid-palate juiciness. Tangy acidity and round tannins framed the red cherry fruit. Drinking great!

Darker fruited than the 2017 Felsina CCR, lower acidity, and grippier tannins. A bit of VA on the nose, and bit of animal funk on the palate makes me wonder if this bottle was representative. Will open another soon.

Charmingly ashy on the nose with notes of dark cherry, leather and iron. High definition stuff and just what any dictionary says it should be. Rich and a bit heady on the palate with loads of dark cherry fruit. Dry and acidic with great energy and tannins that grip appropriately. The vintage shows clearly but the balance is there. Obviously a very well made wine that really does not leave any room for me to complain even if my preference …

Dekantert 1 t.

Best bottle yet. Spent an hour in the decanter before drinking. Medium intense nose, red cherry, warm earth, Sangiovese spice. Dry textured earthy cherry flavours and a long dry finish.

95% Sangiovese and 5% Colorino. Medium-high intensity nose has a lovely savoury, rustic character along with dark berry and hints of floral. It's medium-full bodied with smooth, refined tannins and pleasing savoury replays. Balanced acids are very good, with fine length. Quite sophisticated.
