Still quite deep red in colour, this delivers ripe high toned blackcurrant fruit and some oak spice on the nose. Medium bodied and still quite fresh on the palate. Drinking well without perhaps delivering the complexity and length to score higher.

My previous note and score match this bottle almost 4 years later. Solid wine that didn't have any flaws or issues (not too rustic, oaky or hot) but wasn't all that exciting on the first or second night. There was still solid blackfruits, very little tannins and just a tiny green note; little complexity or secondary/tertiary notes. It can probably last a while, but I don't know if it will improve. More of a midweek wine that is good but …

Intense, tannic, high acid. I don't mind those things as long as they are balanced with fruit and other components. This is not.

tasted @Vancouver International Wine Festival 2023: Spicy wine, juicy style, quite long and deep, the fruit however seemed slightly oxidized with this bottle. - 90 points

Very much acid driven. Seems a touch simple compared to the 2020 Wynns BL tasted alongside.

Definitely a day 2 or 3 kind of wine. Very nice and seems younger than its 10 years.

By the glass. This bottle used to be considered the truly epitome of the Coonawarra cabernets, namely a lot of power and abundant ripe black fruit; intense and tannic but without offending; slightly acidic but absent from a true balance. Must integrated all elements but I don’t think it’ll age properly. Por copas. Esta botella solía considerarse el epítome de los cabernets de Coonawarra, a saber, mucha potencia y abundante fruta negra madura; intensa y tánica pero sin llegar a …

Coonawarra Roadshow (Town Hall, Sydney) : Very slightly sour smelling blackcurrant, smidge of eucalyptus, cedar and sweet spices in support on the nose. Juicy, fleshy, that sour note to the fruit is on the palate as well but doesn't detract, very slightly chalky tannins support the fruit. Simple, young, nice.

Had this over two nights a few days ago. A solid cabernet, with deep blackfruits and a bit of black olive as well; a hint of herbal notes too. Not complex, but it is starting to integrate well - nothing sticks out and its well balanced, not OTT. This should last a while (B+).

Decanted and let sit for a couple of hours. The nose through to the palate is super enjoyable. The structure and balance is very good, in all, its starting to soften up, with the tannin and oak starting to fade. The palate is packed with deep and rich cassis, black currant, some dark chocolate, with some ever slight smoky/charred oak notes on the finish. There is some acid and grippy/drying tannin on the finish, but overall a lovely long finish. …

A lovely wine which needs at least an hour in the decanter to open up. Initially it seemed a tad thin, but soon it knocked our socks off. Gorgeously typical Coonawarra Cabernet, it was redolent of rich, black fruit, especially blackcurrent, blackberry and slightly sweet plums. After about 90 minutes a rich variety of spices came into play--cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and after 2 hours an underlying stratum of dark chocolate. There is an amply stiff backbone of tannin but it …

I always enjoy the Majella style. Bold but still restrained with all the coonawarra characteristics that you look for. Drinks well now and I suspect many years ahead.

Peer review - there are pros and cons. I dipped into this bottle fearing that the 3 bottles I had stashed away were not really suited for cellaring, based on tasting notes I've read recently here and on competitor's sites. This is a reminder that in particular for Aussie wines, in particular for screwcap wines, there is a lot of confusion out there about ageablility. This '12 Majella cab is unquestionably going to be a long term cellar star. The …

Got these last bottles out for New Years party. Nice and fruity but basically unbalanced now in my opinion. Not enough flesh and texture to support the almost shrill cassis. 89-90

Majella Cabernet mini vertical tastings (4 of 4) This is the last of the vertical tastings of Majella Cabernet for the following vintages: 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2012 Initial bouquet very similar to the 2009 vintage but with riper fruits and balance between sweet smoky oak, new leather and hints of toasted spices. Again, it doesn’t have the openness and transparency of the 2008. It is also a touch more reserved compared to the nose of the 2009 vintage. A …

Not a good showing. Lovely starbright cassis fruit, but the structure is far too lean to support it - high acid and very linear. Needs more succulence and ample flesh. Perhaps in an awkward phase, but I am now starting to think this vintage might not be as good as I initially thought..... 87/88 ish for drinking now only.

Dark colour. Like Ribena. Excellent quality steely cassis fruit. However, not evolving as hoped and still extremely primary. The fault of a screwcap seal perhaps?

Still very young - barely moved since I last tried one in 2016. Very primary vibrant cassis. Ribena. Not a whole lot else though. Unsure about this wine. The fruit could collapse with ageing, though at the moment it's so one-dimensional (albeit delicious) that it's not very interesting.

Wine Australia master class. Flight 1 – History, wine 5 (non-blind): The wine was dark ruby in colour and had a very minty nose of nice dark fruit, cassis, some eucalyptus and intense mint. On the palate the wine showed cassis, dark cherry, mint and eucalyptus, with medium-level acidity, ripe, medium-plus tannin and very good length. The medium- to full-bodied Cabernet had good concentration, but seemed a little disharmonious and somewhat incomplete. Needs time. 90+ for now, with potential to …

Modest and surprisingly so. Low fruited, or at least more secondary orientated, but a good backbone of spicy tannin. Quite good length. Herbal fruits with a little liquered blackberry. Needs to show more given its reputation.

A taste of one bottle while the others in the case go away for a while, as this wine is usually approachable young. Dark. Very bright cassis and menthol. Lots of cassis and menthol. Oak and cedar lurking. Tannins currently somewhat hard. Steely, good balance. Needs time. Almost painfully young. Will be fine in time. Very good, but not rated for now.
