Foxen Syrah Williamson-Doré Vineyard

Thank gawd this was my last bottle of Foxen Syrah. Foxen shouldn't make syrah. It's OK wine but not a good QPR.

This is in a really good place, with rich flavors of sweet, dark berries and a touch of licorice. Soft tannins, with smoke and spice on the finish. Compared very favorably to a 2012 of the cuvee I had a few weeks back, which was much less generous and lacked a richness I appreciated with this bottle. I like the 2010s from the Santa Ynez Valley much more than the 2011s and 2012s, for the time being anyway.

Huge hit at an elegant dinner out with friends. Gorgeous deep garnet-purple in glass, with uber-rich aromas of wild berries and black fruit. Explosive in palate with layers unveiling flavors of black cherry, wild berries, a just a touch of black pepper, bramble and allspice. Intense flavors perfectly balanced with sweet, grippy tannins, and wash of acidity at the finish, which sailed on and on. Just terrific.

Brown Bag Wine Dinner at Two Chefs Double Blind; 2/5/2013-2/6/2013 (TWO CHEFS, MIAMI, FL) : The wine looks Purple colored. The legs are Medium. It smells like Blackberry, Black currant (cassis), and Black Pepper. The body is Medium/Full. The wine has Smooth texture. The wine finishes Medium. Jenny's wine. We could ID the Syrah.

This wine blew me away. I wasn't expecting a Syrah from Santa Ynez area to have the same extraction levels of wines like this typical of warmer climates like Paso Robles. Deep purple color, highly extracted with heavy mouth feel. I am ordering more of this for sure. What a wonderful surprise.
