Happy birthday to me! This was fantastic, and well worth the wait. It actually still had plenty of life left in it, but it was ready to drink with a bit of aeration. It's ridiculous that I only paid $33 for this. Even more ridiculous was that I only purchased one bottle. If I had only known. I only have six bottles left of the '09, '10, and '11. Note: I use the recommended scale, so 85 represents a very good wine. Bumped this up to 90 on Day 2. Nice and rich Calif Cab. I am inclined toward Bordeaux, but this was an excellent bottle regardless of context.

Opened to celebrate my son’s 15th birthday. Poured alongside the 2006 Caravina. This wine pours a deep garnet with a semi translucent core no obvious signs of age. Medium+ viscosity. On the nose, medium+ intensity with notes of tobacco, desiccated cherry, black cherry, black currant, purple flowers, green bell pepper, leather and baking spice. Quite aromatically expressive on opening. A good bit of fine sediment so a decant is in order. Drinking last very. Great balance. Moderately long finish. In a good spot and I think it will hold I'm not sure I see it improving much beyond this. It needn't. 92-ish

Decanted at 7:15pm and drunk through about 10 pm. Medium to dark, slightly translucent garnet in color. The nose is quite fragrant and floral in character with hibiscus, anise, graphite, plum, eucalyptus and menthol. There is medium tannin and medium acidity with a slightly lean “old world” mouth feel. Double decanted, then slo-oxed for 3 hours. The nose evolved into dark red and black fruits, with a touch of floral. The medium to plus palate showed black cherry, currant, and cedar wrapped in fine and integrated tannins. Was a bit unbalanced as the acidity showed a bit high, as did the 14.8% alcohol, especially on the finish. Don't think this wine will improve, and may already have hit its peak, For maximum enjoyment, drink up sooner, rather than later.

Popped and poured; consumed over three days. Deep, dark garnet bordering violet in color. Certainly looks young. Powerful nose of currants, kirsch and tobacco. Rich, full bodied but certainly doesn't feel ponderous. The palate is equally rewarding with currants, kirsch, some vanilla and spices. Tannins are still firm but relaxing their grip a bit. Nice acidic backbone. Very nice finish that hangs for plenty long enough. Based off this experience, I've got to say there is still a lot left …

Amazing fruit and spice nose. Well rounded fruit driven wine, sweet tannins comingled, with a sweet, but spicy finish. Well balanced and integrated wine at this point in it's life.

Classic Bordeaux nose of dark fruit, cedar and smoke. Immediately accessible with blackberry, cassis and leather on the palate. After a little time it picked up leather, tobacco, and a touch of dark chocolate and cola. Nice mouth feel and good complexity. Even better with food and overall a great value.

decanted for 2 hours. Really disappointed. I had the '05 a week ago and that was completely different. That wine was fully integrated with a silky finish finish. This lacked the dark fruits and had an acidic finish. Started off well, but by the end of the bottle, the acidity dominated. Just OK.

Excellent example of American Bordeaux blend. Nicely restrained power with red fruits on entry, leather, cedar and a bit of eucalyptus. Earthy but without the barnyard funk present in many Bordeauxs. Smooth but firm tannins tell me to wait a little while on remaining bottles. 94 only because finish was just a bit short. Wish I had bought a case.

An absolutely superb examble of American Bordeaux blend. Few other Californian wines meet this standard, though many aspire to do so. Requires hours of aeration at this point to fully open up. Ripe berries, dark chocolate, garrique, some mint/herbal notes. A multi-layered tasting experience. It's alcohol and oak barrel-aging should readily enable a further 15-20 year aging to achieve full potential. Impossible to resist drinking a couple of bottles now, and well worth case purchase.
