Frederic Magnien Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaut St. Jacques

First vision of 2023 Burgundy. Rambunctious nose of spicy blueberry. Then regal raspberry, strong tanning, deep extract. Not that far off from 2022, maybe a bit more tannin and a bit less fruity? We'll see.

Burgundy Unveiled (K&L Wine Merchants, Hollywood) : Aromatics of strawberry & pomegranate, anise, red florals, and five spice. Flavors of red cherry, tea leaf, spice, and mineral. Medium-bodied and dense, with high acidity and firm tannins. Hints of oak-spice on the finish.

Really lovely dark, brambly fruit with an undertone of baking spices. Lots of wood on the palate still, and the structure is stiff but not punishing in its very youthful state.
