Gorgeous wine. Interesting and fresh and punchy with spiciness. Gotta get some more!

Having it under Corvin for so long did not help it out.

Bottle 1379g. Moderately intense aromas of black fruit, baked fruit, bright spicy note. Dry, with elevated acidity, moderate to elevated sandy and grippy tannins, full-bodied, 14.5°. Evokes a dry landscape. Lamb loin chops grilled with Moroccan spices are resting.

In his style just a little bit farther. Fruit but fruit from the higher plot. Very dark black fruit. From the very old vineyard. He doesn't know how old but at least 1903. This is rather darn stunning.

The way higher plots and all slate. The name refers to monasteries in the region. A little bit of barnyard to it. Fredrick notes it smells like Burgundy. A little hot this year but not as hot as '15. Everyone thinks '15 is the best but the winemaker prefers 2016. Smells mineral and slate-y to me. And in fact the most direct on the palate and focused so far. '16 months in new barrel but it holds it well. The …

Boring and predictable. Dark as the mouth of hell. Initially a lot of red fruit that becomes an impassable wall of wood. To all this we must add its roughness and its imbalance. Watery texture. Dog food ... Aburrido y previsible. Oscuro cómo la boca del infierno. Inicialmente mucha fruta roja que se transforma en un muro infranqueable de madera. A todo esto debemos sumar su tosquedad y su desequilibrio. Textura acuosa. P'al perro ...

Very organic. Violets, Tobacco, Earth and smoke. Dark in color and smooth tannins. Probably needed the age it had.

Wow. As a person who has only taken wine tasting seriously for about 7 years, I have to say this bottle blew me away. It has matured into a fully bodied, delicious wine. It is way different than when I first purchased 4 bottles about 5 years ago from WTSO. I am happy to have had it from the very young to fully mature. If I could find more, I would buy it. The nose was wonderful, and the wine …

overoaked and extracted underripe green tannins. there's a lot of floral and sweet oak notes here, but it tends away from the fine structure of mencia from the hillsides

I'm glad I have 3 more bottles of this wine. Seems like it's just now opening up. Had to let it breathe a bit. Very tannic, earthy, smoky, spicy, flavors of cherry cordials with hint of nutmeg. Nice long finish.

Last bottle was totally different and might have been flawed. This one was great, red fruit inflected, chewy but medium-grained tannins, minerally, a touch of smoke, exactly what you want in a mencia.

Purple hue that opens with potpourri and dusty herbs. Medium bodied with raspberry and plum on the palate that finishes with a lingering smoked meat note.

Lots of sediment, big wine, still heavy tannins. It's a ripe mencia too, but not overdone. Better with food, a little out of balance still, may get more even with time.

This wine has improved a lot in the last year. It has evened out and is no longer so tart. Expressive nose; flavors of dark fruit, tobacco, smoke, and floral notes.

Red tint hue that opens with black licorice and pomegranate aromas that carry through on the palate with a slight earthy graphite note. Lots of sediment that I wasn't expecting and will filter for on the remaining bottles. Medium body, light tannins and good acidity/fruit balance. Paired well with homemade black bean soup.

Potpourri and herbal aromas lead to pomegranate and raspberry flavors. Medium body with nice acidity/fruit balance and a finish that lingers.

Nothing special. Tart and tannic , lean on fruit, ok finish. Would not buy again at any price.

Good. I like Mencias, they are so quirky and unique, like Portuguese wines. Inky purple in the glass. Flavors of tar and herbs. Medium finish. Paired nicely with grilled steak and a glass after dinner was nice on its own.

Dusty, earthy red, with fairly high acid. Very nice cherry finish, but otherwise undistinguished. There are plenty of better wines for $15.

Deep, dark and brooding. Exceptionally well-made with oak notes apparent in the nose. Hard to put a finger on the exact flavors of the mencia grape. It is fairly neutral and vinous, kind of like carignan. This is a wine still young and begging for time to develop. For now, drink with stews or other hearty dishes.

Good. Blood red. Black fruits with some earthiness. Pairs well with red meats and drinks nicely on its own afterwards. Enjoyable but not as deep and complex as some Mencias.
