Boatloads of Dom and Krug + a full 2008 Clos Saint Jacques Horizontal (S.K.Y.) : Yum, great aromas of cherry, toasted brioche and strawberry cream. A big powerful palate yet also pretty and refined. At peak, as it has been for 7 or 8 years now. Favorite of the 04 Doms.

Celebratory evening with our nephew and niece so our son could break bread. Family is what life is about and this wine was at a perfect drinking moment.

Old faithful as it is consistently awesome and this bottle showed solidly in a peak drinking window. Red berries and fresh cut florals for days with a kiss of toast. Powerful yet so energetic as it dances across the palate.

Opened as a welcome wine for a tasting, the 2004 was a luminous rosy yellow, no longer pink as such but definitely was once. Fine bubbles are still lively, aromas of yellow currents, toasted brioche and (faint) marzipan, with a nice balance on the palate. Delicate if not particularly subtle, but delicious and at peak. Fully mature, excellent champagne.

Super Bowl Party. Small pour, actually a good pour. Very harsh to start. Once opened, like 15 min later, very tasty for a 21 year old wine.

A rare miss for Dom Pérignon. Lively enough, active mousse. Light gold. Faint vague aroma. Good acidity. But the mid palate is almost a vacuum, just some mildly tasty lemon. Short finish. Not spoiled but could this bottle be defective?

Terrific Wine! I love Poppies’ note below, when they say it is a ballerina of a wine, excellent thoughts there! It’s definitely, a red fruited beaut., with strawberry and salmon berry perceptions, and also some ever-so-slight citrus tickling the senses. While it shows a tad of age, it has a pleasant crispness, freshness.

A wide-open for business bottle that is still exuberant and full of red berries. In the middle of peak window.

Annual Pilgrimage to Piedmont - 2024 Edition; 10/18/2024-10/20/2024 : 2 beautiful bottles to start our lunch at our Mecca of food that is La Ciau del Tornavento. Round, soft red fruit, elegance personified and really a ballerina of a wine, soft bubbles, well aged and with a persistence. Not as focussed and precise as the white Doms ( we have had a few recently -Papies 95) and definitely lacking the whites energy but still this is the elegant sister, no …

Unfortunately this bottle was not even close the incredible bottle I had a few years ago which was in the 96 pt range. This bottle was very advanced. Upon opening was flabby in terms of flavor. Moussy goodness was there and effervescence. However, the lushness was lacking. After an hour open it gained weight and if you gave it a good swish and smashing in the mouth it become more expressive, but you really had to dig in to make …

Very good bottle! The first taste that comes is sweet licourice. The red fruits are not so bright but damp and complex good flavour. Good body, complexity and the aftertaste was very long and nice! In comperasion with the 2003, the 2004 is heavier and has a more punch to it. Both are tough excellent wines! Points: 94.5

Duty free purchase in Thailand (for roughly 1/4 my local retail) so presumably not stored with regard to temperature for however long? Copper tinged. In comparison to the ‘03 version tasted a few times recently this was entirely devoid of fruit. With air revealed a biscuity mineralite that was heavenly. But I suspect this particular bottle suffered its provenance…

Served blind from mag. Darker colour than the 04 ruinart rose it was paired with. Slightly stinky, reduced nose. Biting acidic mousse. Compact. Very slowly opening. Some confusion with the somm about which was which in this flight but I’m 100% convinced this was the dp! Not a great showing for such an august wine in mag format.

Initially prominent toast, smoke, sweet spices, gilled nuts, hawthorn notes, sharp and linear. With time and warmth it gained weight and complexity - creamier, expressed more plummy and dried red fruits, sencha, English tea, savoury minerality. All well confined in the pure, lingering finish

Nebbiolos, white truffles, Volume VII (Chicago, IL) : Where are my balloon animals? Very reductive on the nose, with that distinct Dom aroma, and some nascent autolytic tones starting to develop as well. Very rich and densely textured, this is taut with acidity and drinks pretty convincingly now already, though I think it doesn't quite have the same concentration as the impressive 2008.

not blind side by side with Cristal 2004 Rose Completely different style. Fruitier and more expressive than the latter one. Not a typical Rose, enough serious as a wine but not the power and elegance of the blanc one, especially in the finish. Toastieness yes oyster no. 94 The Cristal as expected more reluctant and elegant but opens up with time. As always with Cristal needs some years (at best 20 years plus). 95

Not a great vintage for Dom and certainly not worth the price of admission, but even in a relative so-so vintage as this, it is a fine champagne. This one had some harder mineral and chalk elements than in more lush and balanced vintages that overpowered its green apple elements. It'll be interesting to see how this one evolves.

First time I tried this. Interesting nose with a little trapped co2 bordering on a sulphur smell....but that went away in first 10 minutes. Medium acidity and pale golden straw colour. Green apple and lemon on the palate. Decent mouthfeel and finish. Not the best dom I've ever had but koons label and packaging is a conversation piece. Lightly Recommended.

Interesting DP with the beautiful black label. Surprisingly open. Lovely fragrance of mixed citrus. Lots of soft citrus fruit on the palate. The acidity is lower than usual, which may portend a shorter life than the typical DP.

A bit of an awkward nose due to some sulphur and the oxidative nature. Detected aromas of lemon peel, grapefruit, almonds, pear and dried flowers. Better on palate, a well balanced Champagne with good intensity, complexity and nuance. Flavours of yellow fruits and pastry. Relatively vibrant, well balanced acids. 91.
