I've got a 3L of their 2008, and trying to figure out how the 2009 compares or might compare led me to open this one up tonight (in 750 format). At first, this wine had a truffle butter and forest floor kind of thing going on. But, after about 30 minutes it definitely became a different wine. The nose was really the one thing about this bottle that seemed to be the same from cork pop to the finisl AFTER …

A little soft - maybe a little over the hill. But still nice, and the complexity increased an hour after it was opened.

Good nose but seemed more rough than i remembered. do not think the wine was damaged based on the nose. perhaps it needed to decant for an hour or two.

Very delicate wine. Took a few hours to open up. After that, spice and surprising complexity with structure. I think more recent vintages are better. However, this early attempt was strong for Madrigal.

Nice transparency with cinnamon, cassis, vanilla and mocha on the nose. NIce cherry and plush fruit on the palate with defined freshness to keep it interesting and in balance with the nice structure.

3% Merlot, 3% Cab Franc, 92% Cab Sauv. Deep dark in color. Good for a cab. Pepper, cherries, red fruit on the nose. Tannins on back when tasting. Good smooth, nice every day cab. Tasted at the Vineyard.

Decanted 3 hrs & tasted @ the hr time points. Red cherry on the nose with the hint of licorice. Immature & not much complexity. Decent acidity & smooth moderate finish. I was hoping this would develop more over time but it showed its youth & lack of structure. As more time goes on the finish dissipates proportionally to time decanted. Not much else here.

Blue and black fruit. With some structure, odd, its $24 this time?

Sweetly fruit, rounded off, soft, low tannins, low acidity, short finish. I can see it at $24, and hey, its got a Napa designation too.

Rich raspberry, hints of menthol, then cedar. Rather tasty stuff. Touch hot on the back. Mostly from Oak Knoll I am being told. Black currant, which Lindsay says comes from Oak Knoll. I'd buy that. "Finishes with tobbacco" she continues. Yep, I'd buy it.
