Red center, pale red rim with signs of age. Herbal, classic Loire Cabernet Sauvignon, green pepper, dried leaves. Smooth, subtle red fruits, good minerality, some late, strong acidity well integrated with the fruit and a touch of sweetness, great leafy finish. Excellent mature Bourgueil. Drinking very well at 28 years of age.

Aged and drinking not bad. Mineralogy, forest floor and fruit is still there.

No good. Thin body with nothing to speak of on the nose. Astringent & bitter on finish. This wine is gone.

Muted nose, can't get much of anything from it. Light body throughout. Green vegetal characteristic on finish, a bit stringent.

Didn't show nearly as well as the previous bottle I had. Much more green pepper and jalapeno, dominating the tertiary notes of tobacco and cranberry. Still, a fun wine to taste. Lots of acidity and firm tannin indicate that the other two bottles I have still should sit for a big longer.

Opened and decanted 30-min before dinner of left-over chicken/veggie stir-fry. Pale, cloudy purple color with slight brown bricking on the edges. Nose was very musty and burnt on opening, but ultimately revealed candied raspberries, Manhattan cherries, vermouth, cloves, spices, herbs, smoke, and dried gravel. The palate is soft, round, medium-bodied, bright and still puckery, bringing notes of dark cherries, basil, lavender, tobacco, leather, mushrooms, and more savory herbs. The finish also winds out softly with smooth, refined tannins and near …

PnP. Smells like cherry, spice, olive, green pepper, black tea, dried orange peel, and hints of baby powder and nail polish remover (thankfully faint). Mainly cherry, tea, and spice on the palate, quite dry, fairly tannic but well integrated. Medium length finish, spicy and slightly bitter. Tasty.

Opened approximately 2 hours before tasting. The nose shows plums, green pepper, angry cherries, and all sorts of baking spice. The mouthfeel is crazy cool, with notes of fruit leather, green pepper, iron-y mineral tones, and wildly expressive jalapeno/spices. Drinking at its peak, I think this is an incredible Loire wine.

Loved the black pepper and spiciness on this. Soft and balanced on the palate.

Thin clear meniscus. Huge tobacco on opening. Blows off with some air and settles into a subtle bouquet with cigar wrappers, pine needles and black olives. Lovely mouthfeel, spicy palate over a good fruit foundation. Plenty of grip with a pleasantly spicy finish. Hits all the right spots for a Loire red.

Lovely. Good acid and fruit. Not showing too much age, but I can't think this wine will improve any more.

Open and aromatic right out of the bottle - slightly bruised bing cherry, pink peppercorn, black pepper, orange peel, cookie spices, black tea, baby powder, quite nice. Plenty of fresh juicy bing cherry on the palate, with earth, orange peel, and some peppery spice. Medium length finish with lingering dried orange peel and dry baking spices along the lines of cardamom. Good acidity. Noticeable but smooth tannins. This was a pleasant surprise, good aged character while staying bright and fresh, …

New Yorkers welcome West Coast visitors to Peking Duck House, but the wine Gods were angry. (Peking Duck House- Midtown) : I was looking forward to trying this as it was the first Loire Cab Franc I had ever had, having tried it on release back in the day. The aromatics were promising, as they showed ripe black fruit, black earth, a bit of herb, black pepper and licorice. Unfortunately the palate didn't follow through as it showed much more …

Loire Valley Tasting : From magnum. Aromas of dried red fruit, bell pepper, blue flowers and earth. Mature; medium-bodied with resolved tannins to make for a velvety soft texture. Finessed and well-balanced with good acidity. Very good length. Terrific -- I preferred this over a magnum of Couly-Dutheil's 1995 Clos de l'Echo.

Dinner at Don and Melissa's (Upstate Manhattan) : Showed much younger than the 1993, tasted side by side. This had more violet and more flesh but wasn't nearly as complex in terms of aromatics. It did develop a bell pepper note with some air. I don't know if it passed as I moved on to other things. I think it was in a bit of a funky stage; seems to have plenty of stuffing left.
