{screwcap, 14%} Soft leather and earth, spicy aromas and flavours. Gentle dusty tannins, medium acidity. Still quite tight – a decant might have helped. Medium weight, dry finish, with fairly faint background oak. Polished wine on a developing trajectory. Another 5-8 years will be fine.

Hunter Valley - 7 Cellar Doors (Pokolbin) : {screwcap, 13.5%, A$50} Single vineyard wine. Lifted raspberries and violets. Clean, youthful. Fruity and rich palate, but not devoid of structure, with medium powdery tannins, medium-plus weight and a lick of fine cedary oak all chipping in (no pun) to make a modern Hunter shiraz. Can’t really see the extra value over the generic Hunter shiraz, but I guess you pay for the name/exclusivity. Nice enough wine, but expensive.
