Even 5 yrs later, this was opened way too soon, too bad, this has the balance, structure and stuffing to go the distance. I'd love to try this in 2035, I'm sure it'll just be hitting its stride. Clearly the wine of the weekend. Beautifully balanced, dark, opaque purple, vanilla and slight oak, dark fruit with soft tannins. Wish I had more.

Showing quite well at the moment, still very fruit focused, full in the mouth. Rounded, balanced, good length. Served with the 2012 Pentad, and was the superior bottle on this night.

I have had better bottles of the '12 Pentad, which suffered this night by being paired with the 2005. The '05 showed much fuller and balanced, while the '12 had a bit more structure. Dusty tannins on the mid-length finish.

A little nondescript when first opened, but wow, did it ever open up beautifully. Still plenty of life left. The blend makes this wine have a really complete flavor profile from start to aftertaste. Not cheap, but lovely.

This has aged well, definitely drinking in its prime right now. Beautifly aged red fruit with plenty of tertiary notes of leather and dust. WOW

I let it breathe for a few hours before drinking. Really well integrated dark red, blue, and black fruit, baking spice, tobacco, and tannin. Some oak, but not a ton. Really long—and I mean really long—finish. It goes on for several minutes. Quite impressed with this wine and glad I let it cellar for a decade.

Needed 1.5+ hours of air. Fruit is a bit too ripe for me as a stand-alone quaffer, but it paired well with a duck and cherry compote dish. 14.5% ABV. 90-91

Drinking really well right now. Excellent expression of place with tons of depth to the red and black fruit, some minerality on the back end, oak notes, and some really nice tannins.

A wine made only in exceptional years. Interesting smell from the Petit Verdot, Carmenere and Malbec. On the palate the wine has well integrated tannins, dark cassis, plum, and cherry fruit accented with fig, mocha/chocolate, mineral, and herb notes. Very accessible now with a bit of air.

Rich dark fruit; dense smooth texture. Soft tannins with nice complexity and finish. No need to decant. Can be drunk w/o food. Had w filet mignon and the steak overpowered the wine. Drink sooner rather than later.

Wow, spectacular new-world Bordeaux Blend. Places itself beautifully midway between Napa and Bordeaux! It has the density, unctuosity, ripeness and richness of the new world combined with beautiful notes from both worlds and a structure, that could be almost European. Two hour decant was a bit short as it really shone after three. Dusty tannins at first, really rounded blackberry and blueberry spectrum on palate. Could live quite a while but hedonism won the day for this one. Nice QPR.

Powerful red coiled beneath a solid layer of intense fruit. As with all the Seven Hills wines it has enough fruit up front to please early drinkers, but this will make old bones given the chance. I will lock this one down and see where it goes.

Blue fruit nose with steely blue fruit and soft, caressing tannins...but fully ready to go and a hint of green, vegetative notes that prevent a higher rating. Did I like it? Yes...but not at $50! Reminds me of a Paso Robles Cab/Rhone/Zin blend for $35 or $40.

2005 vintage

3 hour decant- full bodied- fruity with a touch of heat towards end. Medium finish. Ok value.

2009 vintage

Very French style. Austere and elegant. Doesn't have the right balance yet.
