Domaine / Maison Vincent Girardin Chambertin-Clos de Bèze

Drank with friends in London last night. Wine had been stored in a temperature controlled cellar since the early 2000’s. Opened it, poured a glass and then we let the bottle sit there for about an hour. The wine was dense and brooding, with a reddish brick, slightly cloudy body. The nose was beautifull, meaty, bacony, tart cherry notes. On the palate, the wine was singing: tart cherry, tea, slightly earthy notes and spicy. The wine had that beautifully structure …

Not a bad Saturday afternoon : Brooding but with a vibrant streak of tart cherry and a touch of menthol adding some bright contrasts, a little stout, but with excellent complexity, it gave a very strong performance.

Super horse manure and baryardish. A bit more smelly and dog shitty. Bretty. But palate is well balanced juicy ripe strawberries

The Ultimate BBC (Burg, Bordeaux and Champagne) Dinner (Absinthe, Boat Quay) : The experience on this bottle was rather marred by a large amount of Brett. A pity, because it might otherwise have been a decent Clos de Bèze. The nose here was full of horsey leather, wafts of barnyard aromas, bloody meat, and then only beneath those bretty scents, a touch of dark cherries and tiny flowery hints, and some earthy, spicey hints of cardammon and cloves. Dark ruby with some brown appearing on the rim. Enticing nose with wild strawberries, sour cherries and spice. Still quite acidic, but with nice tannins. Very good length with cherries and some darker fruit. Great weight. Very impressive wine.

Deep nose of wet leaves, mushrooms,strawberries, baking spices,rich tobacco,and dried herbs. Powerful and young with pure red fruit,spicey oak,forrest floor.Explosive finish. Comes across as being quite young yet. Beautiful.

Oscar night (Shane's: Chicago, IL) : nose: intense and powerful nose of dark red cherries, all sorts of spice tones, mixed berries, red florals, sour berries, and bits of hi-toned red fruits. Taking to the Gill's. Notes later. Outstanding - subtle aromas of fruit and earth. Complex flavors, tannins integrated.

Drank last night and forgot to write my notes then. Remember aromas of cola and dark fruit. SY remembered firm tanins and extraordinary flavor.

Nose of leather, black cherries and something unusual like celery seed. Flavors of black cherries and black berries. Light to medium acidity, light to medium body. Drink or hold.
