This has a nice nose but the palate is a bit unfocused

Black fruit aromas with a firm and taut palate. Black and red fruit palate with whispers of charcoal.

Deep Purple!!! Pronounced aromatics. raspberry fruit, but not so rich and fat. tempered by a real harmonious perfumed high-toned minerality (see previous note's 'bug spray'). palate expresses medium/med+ tannin, m+ acid, m+ body. a peppery/whole cluster note jumps out on the palate. thoughts of dr. pepper. lilac aromas. again, this is the balls.

Drank alongside the 06 Immortal. Compared favorably but I would drink these now.

To my suprise it did not pair all that well with the Chinese food. But it was still delicious on its own.

DAY 2 - this nose is a show-stopper! rich black raspberry fruit and such a thick expression of tar on the nose and such a bright stoney nature to the aromatics.

This was like chewing on barrel staves. Much oakier than I remember... perhaps I recall a prior vintage, this was almost undrinkable. I recorked it and will try it with 24 hours of rest. I remember the first bottle being quite tasty, so perhaps an aberration.

This is a full throttle bottle! LOVE this wine, as always. It's a constantly swirling matrix of flavors that combines the two most important things you can ask of a wine...intriguing AND easy drinking. At times it shows sweet orange, others it's herbacious with loads of dill, sometimes earthy and meaty... Grant really hit it on the head--this is the "Willy Wonka" of Washington wines...the wine equivalent of an everlasting gobstopper!

Red fruit, tangy cherry, pepper, roasted meat. Lively med + acid gives it a Northern Rhone style. So easy to drink.

The nose on this wine just kills me. Muscular dark fruits mixed with some old world mineral and earth. So complex and inviting. On the palate, has those great dark berry flavors with firm tannins, but bright acid. Has a mineral aspect that really fleshes out the wine. It takes the aspects of what I love the most from domestic Syrah with the Northern Rhone and combines them. Killer stuff.

Damn. It's the red version of their Riesling. Crazy wild. Loads of acidity. Angular, jagged palate. Northern Rhone meets Napa? No, this may be pure Washington. Really good. Definitely one to buy and lay down.

Enjoy this wine more everytime I have it. Very complex nose and taste. The usual suspects of dark fruits, chocolate, earthy are all there in a big well integrated wine. Lots of fruit up front with lively acidity and a strong finish. This has to get better with age but I doubt I'll be able to hold onto them.

mmm, mmm, good! I love this---my favorite buy of 2009. Tasted alongside Schafer Relentless which is utterly delicious, but dollar-for-dollar, I'll take the Black Cask!

This just rewrites the record books in my tasting notes. Herb and cherry fruit. Vibrant acidity. I am into it.

Soy and balsamic notes mingled with cherry and lifesaver. Very beautiful cherry on the palate. Rather smoking acidity, nearing a VA point. But in the nicest possible way. What a great drinker. 2 hours in: more calmed down. balsamic, poached pear, clove, nutmeg, and bla bla bla on the fruit salad. What is important is great drinking, complex syrah. Forceful acidity but a georgous fruit back drop. Cheers.

American Syrah (Waterford Wines Milwaukee) : great red raspberry, BATMAN!! quite lively hints of earth. bright green stony notes. hints of tabacco and lime leaf on the finish. postive bug spray. maybe that's the connector...the bug spray that i get is actually a floral expression. discuss.

Wow! An amazingly rich nose that just jumps out of the glass. A classic nose. Plush fruit. Vibrant and bright. After it had a chance to open, it took on some of the garrigue type notes. Great structure and body. The mouth too was amazingly rich. Boysenberry and blackberry. Big fruit, but so well balanced with the tannins. So approachable right upon opening. Incredible stuff.

Chocolate and orange rind. Just opened, more broad then I remembered but with lively, lovely, fleshy acidity. Just opened so we will see how it goes. Two hours in: lively fruit expression. Fresh, right in your face. Tangerine and lime zest. Lively palate. Really good wine at $37.

Washington State (Waterford Wines Milwaukee) : the 'freshest' fruit expression i have come across in quite some time. quite wonderful. fresh fruit perched on an end table in front of a meadow. that's what i'm drinking. great balance. medium plus acidity. this is the balls.

One of the most aromatically complex wines I have had all year. Tangy, tart and lively palate. Serious and will need some time. Delicious.
