Dried cherry, leather, mushrooms, forest floor, dill and some faint oxidated notes on the developed nose. The medium-bodied palate continues with good acidity and dried fruit. Long finish with leather and acids. Tannins are resolved almost completely. As expected, very tertiary at this point, with little primary fruit remaining. But retains still a good structure and rather complex aromatics, making this still enjoyable and drinkable, and surprisingly good with food.

Marqués de Murrieta (Riga, Latvia) : 🏅Rating 88/100 (3,8⭐) Up to 40% of Garnacha in the blend. Less oak aging (3-4 years which was a lot less as opposed to other wines at that time). Crianza style. Meant to be enjoyed young. Wet cloth, iron. Light body. Still surprised how well it keeps the age though.

Monthly Tuesday group #009: 25 years or older. (By JWS) : Beautiful bouquet with a touch of pleasant barnyard and caramel. On the palate red and dark berry fruits, some earth, licorice and leather. Firm red fruit acidity. Overall a mature and still beautiful wine.

Very nice old Rioja. Fruit still hanging in, but certainly a wine to drink up over the next few years. Had nice old flavors fruit flavors, probably hints of strawberries as the most prominent. Very elegant wine, with a beautiful perfume. My only wish was that the fruit flavors were a little more pronounced. Still, it did open up a bit during the dinner, even though I had given the wine a 30 minute decant prior to the dinner. Still, …

Old Rioja nose of cherry vanilla, strawberry, potpourri, ancient barrels, complex spices. Mature, but deep color and lots of freshness still. Has the perfume and silk of an old wine while being held together by fruit and acidity, yet somehow it's just a little...plain.
