This was a pleasant surprise. The cork had deteriorated quite a bit, but I accept responsibility for that. The wine is drinking wonderfully. I did not expect a wine that cellar tracker told me had a drinking window that ended in 2011 to be quite so good. I do think it’s past its prime. However, there are still some tannins, lots of black currant, some chocolate, some raspberry, and tame alcohol. I am really happy that I still have some …

This is tasting amazing now. If you still have some, don't wait any longer. Great fruit flavor!

Lambert's bottle. Cocoa, anise and asian spice. Sweet on the palate with medium length.

Minimal aromatics. Minimal fruit. Decent, but did not age well

not really my style. very structured, tannic, dark fruit. should last in the cellar. too much bite and not enough balance for my taste, but still quite drinkable.

Pop and pour with a marinated skirt steak Very smooth with dark fruit on the nose and palate (nothing written so I'm using my poor memory here). No real tannins to speak of. A very nice wine today but I don't think additional bottle age will offer anything here.

The 2001 Cakebread, very smooth, drink now. Decanted for about 30 min. Started with a small glass immediately after decanting and enjoyed the wine over a couple of hours. 92

Nice wine, similar to last tasting 15 months back. Needed some air (vinturi'd the wine) to open it up, but the finish was still far more fleeting than you expect from this price-point. Good fruit, soft but present backbone, just little in depth or finish. Still, it was enjoyable for the short time the fruit lasts in your mouth

Excellent concentration and elegance. Nose of black licorice, blackberry, and some asian spice. The palate is focused yet smooth, with flavors of fresh black licorice, dark fruits, and some mocha. Some perfectly inetgrated tannins hold it together and emerge on the back end finish, which goes on and on.

Dark, plummy fruit with an edge of anise, maybe even violets, on a nose that is deep and shows only the slightest amount of Rutherford dust. This is serious, and tannic, and the structure overwhelms the fruit a bit. Blackfruits come through still, however, and it is really something on the finish: it goes on and on, thoroughly tannic, but the tannis are ripe and fruit is plush, albeit dark. This is quite young yet, but there is a real …

Decanted for an hour. Still a heavy fruit-driven wine, but the fruit is not overpowering. Very enjoyable, but could use a few more years. Also, not really worth the $$. This was the wine that prompted me to drop cakebreak.

This tastes like a more tart version of the benchland, has alot of the qualities of the benchland of the same year once you get by the tannins. Not a fan of this one as it overly pucks me up.
