Til sushi. Krydderet lukt med hyllebusk blader, epler, muskatnøtt. Kraftig smak med konsentrerte epler, bakt sitron. Noe tanniner. Fylde uten å være søt. Solid syre. 2 dager: Flott frukt med friske gule epler. Kjøp igjen.

This is a fun bottle. Lots of apple on the nose. Attack continues with apple, plus typical Riesling minerality. Great tight acidity balances out the slightly elevated RS. I would classify this as a fairly simple and straightforward bottle, but also a great QPR, open on a Wednesday night with a rerun of a comfort show bottle. Will buy again at $20.

Pale straw. Cut straw on the nose. In the mouth, oily neroli, apricots, ripe apple on entry with fresh acidity. Mod-light body, a light dusting of salt. The mid and finish are short and linear with honeyed fresh fruit. This is well-balanced but light and easy-drinking.

I guess CLEMSTER said it all. Not much to add, this dry Rivaner has a abundant green fruit on the nose and palate, round mouthfeel, great citrus acidity, white grapefruit, and salinity too. From one of my favorite German producers. Tonight with shrimp and shitake stir fry.

The Rivaner comes from the only Ratzenberger vineyards that don’t cling precariously to one of the dramatic, cliff-like walls of black slate that tower over the village of Bacharach. Instead, it grows on the gentle incline at the top of the hill above the Posten, just below the forest, where we sometimes picnic in the summer (and where I once damaged a neighbor’s trellis while driving Jochen’s old tractor in reverse). Floral and perfumed Riesling aromas. Powerfull and tart on the palate, with a sharp mineral character, not unlike a Rheingau. The 16,5 g/l residual sugar is well restrained together with the high acidity. A food wine and not for the terrace!
