Domaine de Marcoux, Chateauneuf-du-Pape

This has always been a decent 2007. Red fruited, bright, tasty.

2007 vintage

Châteauneuf du Pape premium (my home (PT)) : This wine showcases a deep ruby core with garnet edges. The nose explodes with complex aromas of Kirsch liqueur, sun-baked earth, lavender, garrigue herbs, and hints of savory tobacco. The palate is velvety and full-bodied, offering great concentration of dark plum and dried fig, supported by remarkably soft, sweet tannins. It has phenomenal length and power, balanced by the vintage's signature opulence and warmth. It is drinking perfectly now.

2007 vintage

Medium ruby. Smells like cherry, plum, cedar, lemon, smoke, graphite, and spice drawer. Medium (+) body, medium acid and finish, with flavors of dark red fruits, lemon, and some woody spice. Punchy and true to CdP style, but a little woody and uncomplicated.

2014 vintage

Not much left on this one, but not too far gone, either. There is a hint still of the jammy fruit this once displayed. Time to make some stew . . . .

2004 vintage

Light cherry colour with brick tint; nose spicy and volatile with raisins, black tea and high toned solvents; palate pure and silky, with lovely red berry flavours. However right through the nose and palate was a slight oxidative mustiness, which developed strongly in a sample retained for 24 hours - if typical, the wine is over mature and a drink up.

2001 vintage

Fantastic value, and first of two bottles. Lighter style CdP, as is to be expected from this domaine. A nice touch of funk that I thought would blow off, but it persisted. Fruit is still there, but recommend a pop and pour over the decant.

2014 vintage

Didn’t have much here. Very closed off Some fruit on the palette immediately but not much thereafter and no real finish. Decanted 30-45 minutes

Decanted for 30-45 minutes then sealed before dinner Really nice and then turned to port notes after 90-120 minutes. Still enjoyable - interesting to see the change Went down easy throughout and was well balanced

2001 vintage

Finally a 2007 CDP that lives up to the hype! Big gamey nose, lots fruit with lively acidity and a bit of heat. Tannins are still quite evident, so still some life in the wine. Finish is solid but not amazing. Still is one of the best 2007 I’ve had to date and I’ve had quite a few.

Châteauneuf-du-Pape with my boy!; 4/15/2024-4/17/2024 (Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Southern Rhône, France) : Cool vintage. Grenache forward. White pepper. Pine. Cherry. Just glorious.

2014 vintage

Fully mature, cool-fruited, tertiary notes. Less interesting than the 2000 and 2003, but still a good example of mature Marcoux. Time to drink up.

2001 vintage

Much lighter end less compact compared to the 2003 Marcoux tasted against it, this is more on light red fruit, pepper and lavender and thyme notes. On the elegant side, much like 2004 in CdP is in general and usually I’d prefer that, but today the 2003 is better wine, much better.

This overperforms the vintage. Chocolate, sweet Grenache, no prunes, garrigue, quite local; powerfull, good acidity. Drinking a point. #Nunez

Enormous wine. Huge fruit cake and chocolate nose. Goes on for days. Drink over the next couple of years.

Excellent mature CdP flavors in full tertiary splendor, but this is the end of the road. Dried fruit, leather and potpourri, great nose and finish for the first hour with some decline in the second. Nice way to go out, though!

In very good condition. Well composed. Nose of black cherries and undergrowth. Full bodied but still balanced.

2007 vintage

Very rich, warm, if maybe a little bit of a burnt coffee note, chocolate here. This is a mature, hearty neuf - drinking a point, wont get better. I think. #PensionDanmark

These were some of the very few 2007 I did not sell. No ragrats… many many regrets! This is so awful. What an amazingly horrific year for a region. Any expected red fruit was just stewed and horrid!

I was gifted this bottle last year and since I had decided on lamb for dinner, I figured a 2014 Marcoux would be splendid (spoiler alert: it was). Popped and poured; consumed over the course of a few hours. The wine pours a garnet color with a transparent core and browning edge with a slightly watery rim. Beautiful. Age showing in the glass. Red/brown, losing colour at the rim. Earthy/meaty nose, still some glimpse of cherry and vanilla, a bit of smoke and licorice. Full bodied and rich palate, big boy, earthy, tea, Kirsch, cherry. Smooth/creamy mouth feel and very long finish.

This was very tight on opening and not showing a lot. With a couple of days on the counter with a bit of argon, it softened and opened up showing sweet cherry berry fruit, pretty baking spices, a touch of vanilla and ripe fine grained tannins on the finish. Light bodied but lots of flavor on the palate. Sexy nose makes it fun to sniff and shows potential for further development. Medium length silky finish. Very nice Cdp.

Big Bottle Outdoor Party 3.0 or so (Northern Lüneburg Heath) : From MAG: lovely mature bottle, silky, a very silky flow, fully blossomed, typical Syrah like fruit showing, some meat, leather, long, food friendly, but would say: drink up!

2001 vintage

Aromatic as well as heady nose of grilled herb switches (rosemary and thyme), sage and fennel seed as well as cooked black cherries. Full-bodied, this is a typical 2007 CdP, full bodied, but lacking focus and precision. That said, this is quite delicious with good tannic structure and freshness (rare for a '07 CdP) In fine shape, this will last quite some time as it is still quite youthful! Drink now-2027+ 92

Bright raspberry fruit and herbs, noticeably aged but not ancient. Finish seems a bit hot and mildly bitter for the first two hours. We pnp'd but a two hour decant would make an excellent difference--also, the wine has a lot fine, silty sediment. Best to pour off top 2/3 and clean the remainder with an unbleached coffee filter.

similar to my last note: dark red, brick rim with hints of orange - nose initially suggested roasted fruit, but after that blew off it developed a very pretty nose of black cherries and blackberries - full body in the mouth with abundant fruit, but somewhat low acidity that renders the wine a bit dull - tannins fully resolved and soft - moderately long 20-30 sec finish - a very nicely developed CdP that is probably at its prime now, …

Medium red color. On sour cherry notes, asian spices, a hint of tomato. Cool and airy with good lift. There’s herbs and garrigue as well, this is very local. A Chateauneuf from a great vintage, of course, but also a Chateauneuf that takes me back in time.

In a great spot now, still showing subtle notes of cherry and raspberry fruit combined with Provençal herbs, lavender and Christmas spices. Upright, with good freshness and perfect with lamb chops with rosemary and garlic.

2004 vintage

From half. On opening and decant to remove sediment the nose was all about figs. After a while the palate was predominantly figs, raisins and other darker fruits. Quite light. Resolved and fine.

2001 vintage

Soft fruit, some spice. Seems grenache-driven, but on the sedate side of that grape with less acidity and tannins than desirable--kind of takes the pop out of the pape.

2004 vintage

Structurally on the light side, but interesting and enjoyable. I like the restrained it showed while still being representative of the region.

2014 vintage

For an average vintage this is a beautiful fruit forward CNdP with many years to come...

Very floral nose, groseilles rouges, very delicate and feminine, nice oriental spices, herbes de Provence... Still very young and vibrant, sappy tannins, red groseilles, crisp acidity in the finish.
