This lacked a bit of oomph even for a medium bodied Hunter shiraz, but it still is a pretty tasty wine with a bit of leather, currant and cherry on the palate. Pretty good QPR too.

Three days in the Hunter Valley, 13 Cellar Doors, 115 wines; 2/24/2011-2/26/2011 (Hunter Valley, Australia) : Plenty of butter on the nose. Like a grilled cheese sandwich, with butter, spice, and salt. The wine tastes like really fake butter (the kind you get at McDonalds for breakfast), mixed with distilled berry soup. The harsh finish is bitter, sharp, and tart. Blah. Really unenjoyable lingering flavors.

Nose of wood shavings and cherries. Generous mouth with perhaps some sweetness of extracted blackcurrant. Finish of 45 seconds of sticky date pudding and wood varnish with a touch of bitterness.

It's big and fruity, like a fruit drink, with some oak and it's not the worst fruit bomb plum jam ever but it's too far that way for me. A style not dominated by tannins or alcohol their website says. I'll go with the tannin but 14%? Thought it might come into it's own with my 'gourmet' which turned out to be a bit spicy. But then it just tasted of vanilla with some flat cardboard. I did keep drinking …

Opened and let sit in the bottle for an hour, did not decant. Black cherry, currant and licorice are all rich on the nose. Full bodied palate of plum and raspberry with pepper and other spices. Reasonably well balanced and not overly tannic for a short dry finish. Paired beautifully with breaded teriyaki marinade pork strips.
