Flowers, spice, red fruits and espresso show in the nose with little effort. On the palate, the wine is soft, fresh and fruity with black cherries, chalky tannins and chocolate to wrap everything up nicely. Drink from 2024-2033.

So...bottle #3 and the very LAST bottle....2 years since last review. On nose and palate: all elements of this fine wine still consistent:the mesquite, tobacco, cherry pit and herbal notes intact....including the greenish strawberry notes after the 2 hour decant ....very satisfying dinner wine at 14 years of age...would be keen to find newer vintages.

Dark fruits, dark spices, firm tannins, tobacco and oak, dense texture, full body. Highly extract, very good ripeness in the great vintage, surprisingly longer life than critics estimated, but still need a little more harmony to be perfect. The last bottle of a case, an impressive Castillon, at its peak. WS 89, Falstaff 90, BD 14, JL 87 Ap 5/5, Ar 13/15, Palate 16/20, Overall 2+4/10 Total 90/100

(87-88 vvPunkte) Mittleres Rubin.

dense oak and dark chocolate flavours, thick and grippy tannins, a little tobacco, smoky and alcohol in finish. m+ body with large structure, but quite rustic in details. it's interesting to see how it will develop in next 3-5 years. Ap 5/5, Ar 13/15, Palate 16/20, Overall 2+4/10 Total 90+/100

Medium garnet with slightly brown edge. All mellowed, cassis, dark fruits, sweet fruity core, medium smooth tannins, good length with subtle cedar, chocolate and alcohol warm in finish. robust and medium scale. Balanced and elegant aged red can be found in every corner of Bordeaux, even in an obsecure village like Castillon which was never on my radar. PNP in a hotel room, this bottle was impressive for its sense of place FOR $16?!? Cassis, black cherry, plum, earth, coffee, cedar and stone / minerals. This was meant to be opened in the 5-7 year window to keep our hands off better '09's in the cellar. Now I'm glad it got lost and wandered out of the forest now! Through 2025 and my wife liked it more than I did...must be the Franc...

Bottle#2... On nose and palate: very consistent with the bottle tasted two months ago, with a telltale slightly green strawberry note as it warms up after a 2 hour decant . Fine balance, can still age....I have ONE more bottle.

Well....a classic, old school , Castillon commune wine. On nose: mesquite charcoal and dry floral notes. On palate: follow through of above flavours, in addition to cassis, cherry pit, fresh tobacco, minerals and clean lively tannins....after a 2 hour decant, greenish strawberry notes appear...at 12 years of age this appears to be a good food wine , in a good place. The only surprise , is the 14.5% alcohol rating: no sign of heat, or over extraction here.....tastes more like the …

Lots of sweet red fruit that was very appealing, very 2009. Certainly not complex, but a good value.

Very floral nose upon first opening. Light bodied, medium color, medium finish. Cherries, dried strawberries, and floral notes. Day two the dominate flavors are dried fruits and cured meat.

Medium bodied wine with a smooth character, full of ripe black fruit and a touch of vanilla. Not very complex, but very balanced and pure taste. This wine is ready to drink now.

Darkest transparent red, almost black --- Nose elegant, hints of wood, fruit and ethereal notes, ripe black cherry, some marzipan, some almond, nutty notes, some herbs --- Palate fresh, dense, fruity, nice wood notes, nice tartness, nice sour cherry, fantastic acidity, some sweetness, some black tea --- Finishes on fruity and tart notes. Offers so much flavors, nice structure. Tasty and entertaining, classy.

Has a sweet, grainy profile - really too sweet, almost sugary. Pretty mature and ready to drink.

Decanted 30 minutes. On open a bit edgy with tannin, cedar, dark berry, vanilla hints. Opened up and was more balanced with time and decant. Moderate body and length, not particularly rich or deep, but was nice with mushroom soup. Seems to have plenty of life ahead, but not sure of great development.

Dark transparent red --- Nose herbs, some flowers, elegant wood notes, black olives, oriental herbs, overall elegant, some coal, some dark fruit --- Palate fresh, watery, acidic, vivid, red fruit, red currant, some cherries, some violets, nice tartness --- Finishes on balsamic notes, minerals and tartness. Fantastic Bordeaux, unbeatable qpr. Did not open many Bordeaux 09 so far, however, this one is simply great. Drinkable and tasty while classy Bordeaux.

Nose shows promise. Dark fruit. But rather hard on the palate, and lacks richness and elegance.
