Château Palmer Historical XIXth Century Blend L.20.19.

This is OK but not great - what a waste of two great wines! This is a blend of 10% Hermitage and Palmer 2004. Presents as very young, dark fruit along with some leather, very primary. Medium length and strighforward. Wait for 20 years.

Drank in London Still feels very young even though it is from the 2004 vintage.

When this wine came out I had a lot of fun bringing it to dinners side by side with the 2004 Palmer to see what the Hermitaging process was doing to the wine. Opened up quite nicely to show red cherry, blackberry and touch of blackcurrant. Darker undertones and a touch of dark chocolate. Peppery notes from Syrah. Much better than last time but I'd still struggle to buy this over any other Bordeaux especially for the price.

Wasn’t sure how I felt when I bought these, and regretted immediately upon reading previous reviews. However, after drinking I’m surprised how much I enjoyed. Definitely a unique wine, and not tremendous depth, but enjoyable. Looking forward to the other 2 with more age.

Ch. Palmer dinner with winemaker Thomas Duroux (Jeffrey's, Austin, TX) : Tasted alongside five Palmer Grand Vin vintages and their Blanc. This blends 90% of Palmer Bordeaux grapes and 10% northern Rhone Syrah. I occasionally like a Syrah/Cab blend, in particular in the case of Trevallon, but I found this a bit too syrupy and cloying for my preference.

Dark purple. Nice nose: red fruits and plum along with distinctive spices and peppery notes from the Syrah. The Syrah certainly added a density to the wine along with some leathery notes and treacle jaminess. 60 years of Chateau Palmer (Torali) : Very cool to taste something so unique. The Syrah certainly gives a deeper color to the wine with subtle purple hues. The wine seemed fuller, more floral and meaty as well, with a silky texture. This drinks very well right now and may have some upside from here.

Wine Night #2 Commanderie @ GWC!: Black fruits, dried figs, earth, bramble, slight notes of barnyard funk. Quite ripe and volatile from the start. Tannic with a dry finish. Frankly quite a confusing bottle and hard to call this in a blind taste. Nonetheless, glad to have had the chance to try this!

Elegant Bordeaux with a twist. The Syrah adds a tartness mid palate and at the finish which is a nice touch I think. Needs some time to open up. I need some more time to think and drink. This is a nice experiment. Very hard to find but worth a try for something unique.

Palmer blended with Hermitage Syrah! As was the style in the 19th century. Dark fruit here with some cedar and tobacco and starting to develop meaty tertiary flavors. Awesome to try this.

Really fun to taste, the peppery qualities from the Syrah are shining through right now. Full-bodied, fresh, ripe and soft, the nose, with its spicy, earthy, floral, red plum nature, and the soft, peppery, red berry palate work together. This is drinking quite nice today.

Decanted and served. Drinking well with nice leathery fruit and a buzz on the palate from the Syrah. It's well integrated although Cab-Syrah is not a favorite blend of mine. The Margaux fruit carries it though.

Decanted for a good 2 hours and really needs it at this stage. Have we tried this blind we would have struggled to place it and really is a unique wine as it is a non distinct one from a style point of view. At 12, this has morphed into an elegant, medium bodied, finesse styled wine that is ready for its prime time window. The initial spicy, peppery notes of the Syrah has faded, leaving you with a silky, plum, cassis and earthy finish.

The debut vintage of this special cuvee' shows a light touch of oak, charcoal, smoky tobacco, cigar box, medium bodied, soft, the tannins lack the softness found in Palmer, but they are not obtrusive. Mature, ready to drink, enjoy this now and over the next few years.

It had a fairly high toned, floral perfume coupled with bright cassis fruit. It was rich and dense in the mouth with good grip to the finish.

Served blind, the group was challenged to finds it place. Spicy, fresh, black raspberries, earth and floral styling's led to a soft, open, peppery expression of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. This is drinking well today.

Underground Bordeaux Tasting Feb 10/2010 (Yaletown, Underground) : So this is blended with 15% to 20% Syrah from the Rhone, rest with Bordeaux Grapes, Only About 60-70cs made per year. LdC Palmer vs. Margaux Dinner (Primehouse) : Opaque red purple color. Huge rich nose of black fruit, spice, and bacon fat(!). Huge big rich ripe sweet black fruit with lovely round sweetness, a caramel note, and a bit of black spice. An unusual wine that I really enjoyed.

Farewell Dinner for Colin at Joe and Bonnie's (Bonnie and Joe's Home, Amalfi Drive, Los Angeles) : Crimson red color; rich, redolent, sexy cassis nose with a sense of Rutherford dust; rich cassis and plum palate; medium-plus finish (blend of 85% 2004 Palmer fruit and 15% Hermitage Syrah)

2004 Palmer Historic XIX Century Blend - With deep color, jammy black fruit, pepper and lush textures, this is an outstanding wine. It will not last as long as Palmer, but it's a lot of fun to drink this unique wine.

Northern Rhones and other syrahs (Gurnee IL, Jordan's house) : nose: real deep and rich nose where you see the bordeauxness in this wine, but there is a kick to it with that normal palmer silkyness. Blackberries, smoke, dark cherries, tobbacco, chalk, cranberries, and crushed blueberries fill out the nose taste: great dark fruit core with tobbacco, black berries, cranberries, whisps of smoke, and leather tones overall: luscious feel with still firm tannins. Northern Rhone Get Together in North Chicagoland (Gurnee, Illinois) : Sight: A dark red clarified wine of medium viscosity. The dark color stood out for me with purple-hues. Château Palmer Vertical (Morton's) : I’ve had this wine once before but was especially looking forward to it in this context to taste against the regular 2004 Palmer.
