Barolo night at Oso : Was a bit modern and polished initially. But settled down after 2 hours really well. High toned roses and tar on the nose and plenty of fruit and structure on the palate. Big scaled wine but never overpowering. Enjoyed this a lot.

Still in good condition. No decant. Dark color, some brownish edges. Fruity nose. Full bodied wine. Intense bouquet of very ripe dark fruits, blackberries, plum, dark cherries, chocolate, mocca. Thick, viscid texture. Long, silky and intense finish.

[Balla Italian Soul Birthday Dinner 11/12/22] Decanted for 30 min. Grippy red fruit, sour red cherry, strawberry, red currant. Tannins are fairly resolved but still quite tight and youthful. Very good wine.

Stored at optimal conditions since release. Perfect fill and cork not soaked, but difficult to remove even with Thedurand. Garnet with orange hue in thin layers. By pouring I got an intense note of blueberries first, than plums, lovage, umami, dark chocolate. All without a decant. My first 25 Anni. Decanted for a couple of hours, w/ lots of sediment. 100% Sagrantino. Deep dark brown w/ thick, glass-staining legs. Developed, w/ pronounced ripe black fruit, black plums, dried red flowers, leather, earth, dark chocolate and well integrated baking spices from 2 yrs in French barriques. Rating is after an 8-10 hour decant. Very tight upon opening. Once the tannins and alcohol die down, lovely fruit and earthy notes. Great with stronger flavors like cheese or lamb.

A big, bold, very delicious wine. Medium to dark ruby color. Light floral and fruit fragrance, earthy palette and medium finish. The tannins are still rather sharp when first opened but smoothed out nicely after 1 hour decant. Another year or two in the cellar will help.

This is one fine wine. POP. Very unusual Sagrantino. Warm and smooth. Sweet fruit but not dessert. This is a pair with almost anything wine.

Dark purple, big, tannic monster, and to me over oaked. If I had to guess I would have thought it was a good but modern style Super Tuscan. Jammy plum fruit but mouth drying tannin cuts the finish a bit short. Not sure where this wine will go but I'd rather hold this wine for at least 5 more years than drink it now. Scoring wine as it as opposed to its potential.

100% Sagrantino with yields less than one kilo per vine. Aged for an average of 25 months in French oak barriques with an additional 6 months in bottle before release. Deep, inky ruby with brick rim. Complex nose, delightfully layered offering violet scents upfront with plum and cassis followed by medlar, iodine, blood and leather. Deep and firm yet not assertive with velvety tannins an elegant backbone lifted by peppery spice and refreshing acidity.

Very big wine, concentrated and smooth, definately Sagrantino. Tasted at Tre Bicchieri. Almost too much wine to ever be really good with food. Need to wait for a few years and see it again.

Madonna di Campilio Ski Trip; 1/17/2014-1/19/2014 (Madonna di Campilio) : Still in the young category and requires decanting to develop. A very well made wine of quality and purity. Big and powerful wine, big tannin at this stage and at times showed sharp edges especially on the finish where it had some unbalanced acidity. OMG or should I rather say OMFG! If you ever thought that a young Chateau Latour is not your thing because it is too feminine and lacks a proper tannic corset, here is your wine! A powerful wine. Decanted two hours and more, it showed complex flavors of dark berry fruits, strong minerals and hints of anise. Very full on the palate with good length and some clamping down of tannins in the long finish. Not sure this will improve or just hold, but an excellent wine that went especially good with steak and stood up to an also powerful 1986 Chateau Talbot, which showed magnificently.

Full-bodied but not heavy--no noticeable heat. Starts with plum and a little blackcurrant, then the fruit reddens with air. Very soft but throws up a wall of tannin after a while. Smoky and rich. Still primary.

Gambero Rosso (Metropolitan Pavilion) : On the nose, this wine was a monster with raspberry, holiday spices and dark forest notes. It verged on sweet but something animal about this Sagrantino, pulled it back to reality. On the palate, a massive wave of concentration was turned fresh by vibrant acidity as blackberry jam, pomegranate, cinnamon and herbs wash across the tongue like silk. Perfect with a pasta dish. Great rustic italian wine. Decanted for a few hours before we drank, but it seemed pretty accessible as I tasted it throughout the two hours.
