I have been sampling Monthelie for about a year now. I have had several bottles, ranging from domaines I had never heard of through Comtes Lafon. This was the best bottle so far. Blind, you would assume Volnay, which is essentially what I am after in a Monthelie at this stage in my journey. Penultimate bottle from a full case, I last enjoyed this pretty PN about a year prior. Delicious this evening, popped and poured for family while enjoying light conversation, this wine showed pretty stewed red fruits, alongside cooking spices, tobacco leaf, and moist soil. The palate shows straightforward and tasty fruit, with some complexity, but rather a serious representation of PN from the relatively unknown village of Monthelie. Medium length finish, good acidity and refreshing snap. Drink sooner than later.

Light ruby with moderate rim clearing Medium plus aromas of red/black cherry with forest floor/ mushroom secondaries and soy/umami aromas - no new oak notes Medium bodied with palate of ripe and tart red cherry/ mushroom and hint of anise Medium tannins which remain a bit unresolved - medium alcohol and medium plus acidity Overall a quite pleasant and uncomplicated Burgundy - great wine for the price Recommend drinking now or next 1-2 years

8th bottle from a full case. Last had a bottle about 6 mos prior. This 10 yr old Burgundy is showing beautifully today, with tart red cherry and dark plum notes, alongside wet rocks, a hint of charcoal, and coffee grounds. The acidity is refreshingly bright, and there is still a slight bit of unresolved tannin remaining, to add mouthfeel and structure. A pretty Pinot, drink this vintage through 2025+.

7th bottle from a full case. Last had this wine a month prior. Shows red fruits that are a bit stewy and cooked upon initial opening. The tannins need some oxygen to gain grip, and that happens over 30 mins of aeration. The fruit becomes a bit more flavorful but still is more berry-pie flavored rather than that refreshing bite that I am sure this wine offered years prior. Is better to my palate on day two. Bottle 5 from a full case, last had this wine about 5 mos ago. Shy upon opening, then gained some interest with air. Shows off red fruits, alongside rhubarb and spice. An earthy wine, with pretty soil tones that add interest, and in no way are overbearing. Nice colour - lovely bright cherry, nose is a little baked with maybe a tinge of TCH, palate is also a little tainted, very dry with a tinge of paint. We'll see if this blows off with some air.

Purchased a full case from Garagiste, on Burghound's recommendation that this would make a nice "house red". Boy, is he right. First of 12 bottles, this 7 year old wine came across foursquare and simplistic upon PnP...gave it 10 mins to aerate in the glass, and some magic started unfolding. Tart cherry fruit and under-ripened plums, underpinned by deep earthy and spicy notes, and cinnamon, leading into finely grained tannins with great acidity on the medium length finish. Drink this …
