The birthday round 2 (HT) : Powerful yet velvety across the bouquet and palate. Bouquet showing forest floor, earth, dark plums, tar, sandalwood and ginger. Palate velvety and plummy, with grippy tannins in the backdrop, thought this was perhaps a Barolo from a traditional producer but turns out was grossly wrong.

This bottle was decanted off the sediment about six hours ago. Wow, what a complex nose! I don’t drink a lot of northern Rhone, but this has a very distinctive nose. This literally covers every nook and cranny of your palate. Impressive!

Had this again, decanted for 1h. Nose of dark fruit, smoke, bacon, earthy element, still a bit brooding. Lots of acidity, medium+ bodied, make for the long distance. Can be approached now but I really recommend to wait for another 3-4 years before opening this. 95-96

Must drink now. Bottle is getting to the end of a good drink window. Started to become thinner on the palate and faded away after 2 hours.

started drinking nearly 2 hours after opening without decanting. The nose showed a little smoke and grilled meats, a hint of savory notes, and ripe fruits like cassis. Some half hour later the wine was showing a nice level of ripeness, but also started to reveal some stewed fruits.

Such a sense of place. Swear I could taste the terroir as described. Balanced and super sophisticated tasting experience. Again ageless. Herbs, fruit, spices, tar. Elegant but powerful. Attractive fruit but savoury/dryness. Wonderfully complete wine - a joy. Made me wonder what a great year tastes like.

Slow oxed for roughly four hours. This is a medium red wine with serious tongue-staining concentration and modest sediment cake on the bottle. On the nose, I get blueberry, leather, pepper, and gamey notes. In the mouth, the wine is lively, smooth, and lush, with an unexpected level of acidity coupled with serious depth of flavor. Decanted 60 minutes. Fragrant nose, not overly intense but showing light brambles, violets and some hoisin. Palate is richer with real depth - oodles of hoisin notes, ripe brambles and blackberries, lots of sage. Good tannins with a fine grip and freshness giving delightful balance. I bought 1 bottle each of the three La Las and this is the first one consumed. With BBQ Rib Eye steak. The wine and the steak were a perfect match. Deep, dark colour; attractive nose; wonderful long finish. Drinking well, but no doubt this has at least another 5-10 years of drinking pleasure ahead.

2006 vintage

While no doubt a young La La, 2007 La Turque is fabulous tonight, wafting layers of violets, campfire smoke, black olive, smoked meats and deep dark fruit. It’s multidimensional palate is seriously concentrated, yet simultaneously shows elegance and lift, all leading to its long, silky finish. In a great spot but also with many years ahead.

Still youthful. Needed a 40 minute decant. Wet wool and mineral bouquet, some red wine poached pear, fresh marjoram/thyme, graphite, and black olive. Opened in the bottle all day and decanted a bit half way through. Palate seems close to mature with olive brine, dark fruit, smoke and cured meat. The structure is still firm and grippy making me think this has more complexity to show with time. Give it another 5 plus years.

After 8 hours in open air La Turque starting to really show what this is all about. Initially very dark and raw...dark fruit, oak, vanilla and a lot of minerals.
