The orange tinge shows both the age and the botrytis that is typical for the region and the botrytis is further evident in the prominent tropical fruit and honey and a bit of sweetness on the finish. Still very much alive and enjoyable.

Bright golden color. Ripe honeyed apples, grilled sour pineapple, with a hint of florality, but thankfully no oxidation. Bright and juicy on the palate, the fruit has matured into more tertiary flavors, but still good fresh. A delicious bottle.

Magnum, purchased at auction. Seems like it still has quite some life left in the larger format. My first aged white wine and it was phenomenal: as refreshing as honeysuckle on a hot summer day, though drank in autumn. Taste lingered quite a while (~40 seconds). I will certainly be seeking out more aged white burgundy!

Served blind, I was leaning towards Chenin given the flavor profile and acid brightness. Plenty of honey and sweet white fruits, with good lift. Very nicely done.

Popped and poured. Dark golden color that would concern me from almost any other producer in Burgundy, but not Bongran. Weighty and rich, ripe apple and peach with Kabinett level sweetness. This has the energy and dry extract to age effortlessly. Not for everybody's taste, but a wine I really enjoy (with the right rich food).

Just terrific once again. Ironically this fourteen-years-past-vintage white Burg was a very capable last-minute replacement for a top-quality 2012 Albarino which turned out to be premoxed.

I was surprised by the relative youth of this powerful, personality-rich Macon-Villages. Complex, delicious, and kinda serious. Perfect with Provencal style roasted fish, and surprisingly good with a Sichuan style shrimp dish with lots of ginger, garlic, and chili heat: I think this wine's depth and intensity allowed it to hold its own as a quasi-equal partner, where I'd usually reach for a sweeter German or Alsatian white as more of a complement.

Dinner at Sun Wah (Sun Wah BBQ - Chicago, IL) : Boy oh boy was this tropical. I'm thinking that this would have been an interesting additional to a blind riesling tasting since it had those vivid notes of peach, pineapple and mango. The palate was plush but I enjoyed it a lot. The fruit was just as effusive on the palate as the nose would have suggested, and this combined nicely with a lingering acidity on the finish.

2000 Vintage Great White Burgundy Dinner (Boka - Chicago IL) : Very concentrated and intense stone fruit aromas and flavors with great textures. Powerful and expanding. This should last for decades. I served this blind to the group. Everybody enjoyed it, nobody could identify it as Chardonnay, but that might simply be that nobody expects a Botrytis-driven wine to be made from Chardonnay.

(Martine's tasting) Fantastic. The balance between acidity and sweetness is perfectly judged. In response to questions M. Thevenet makes clear that it is neither the age of the vines nor the winemaker who makes this wine, it is the terroir. I think he's being modest. Given the same raw materials I'm convinced most winemakers would fashion banal, oaky Macon, instead of something this special.

Took this half bottle back to France to drink in the Alps. Had it at the end of dinner, drinking it between three of us with just a ripe nectarine each to go with it. The result was spectacular, one of those combinations that really worked.
