Full disclosure, the bottling we had was likely past its prime. Nevertheless, the fact that the bottle we enjoyed was 17 years old is a testament to the durability of Marcassins. The wine poured a stormy golden apricot and had an incredibly lush mouthfeel. Honeysuckle on the nose, followed by some sweet pear on the palate along with some charred bacon. Bitter finish and a bit dull at the end. I'm just curious as to what this wine was drinking …

Getting mature, but still life ahead. Golden, butterscotch and ripe apple and pear. Still big and structured, but them acidity is fading and giving way to bacon fat. Very good, clearly not French, but not hot overripe California. Paving it's own way at 11 years of age. Good length, noticeable oak, but ok

Still very youthfull and very much alive. Medium yellow/gold colour. Big body for a white wine and a long elegant finish. Meursault like butteriness but with more acidity and fruit. Very nice.

The Greatest Pig Roast Ever?? (Chicagoland) : Slight golden yellow color. Lemon custard, toasty nuts, and smoke on the nose and palate. Full bodied, creamy yellow fruit palate, long finish. Very nice, though I would like to see a bit more acidity.

Birthday Bash with Pig (Chicagoland) : Ripe citrus and tropical fruit. Nice tension, with some waxy notes, and a very rich, forward palate. Some alcohol on the finish. Very ripe, but nice wine.

Les Degustateurs (Vie Restaurant Western Springs, IL) : WOW! Outstanding, honey like color, I identified as a Cali chard...Kongsgaard or Palhmeyer, I said it was a 10 year old Chard, great on the palate, fill the mouth with great flavor. After learning about the wine, I realized I had drunk my only bottle a couple of weeks ago.

This bottle was very disappointing.. My last bottle, all purchased on release and stored perfectly. Darkish, almost golden color...obviously oxidized in the nose and confirmed in the taste. Not undrinkable but clearly a shadow of what this wine (has been) and should be. NR

Suprisingly youthful color for a cali chard of this age. Tell-tale nose of buttescotch and caramel but also a bit of minty herbalness at first. The wine needed a good 45 mins of air to open up and it continues to build through out dinner and as it warms up. A very big wine but still somewhat tight now. I recommend extensive breathing or holding for a few more years if you have bottles in good condition.

Warm hazy green/yellow color... Tropical/mineral aroma w/ subtle sandalwood(?). Reminds of red wine light red wine in the mouth... nice tannin. Very subtle, sexy, sophisticated wine.
