I wasn't a big fan of Porter Creek's previous Viogniers, but now they are sourcing the fruit from their own newly planted vines. The difference is astounding. Profound and deep, there is richness, but also elegance. Stem ginger, honeyed stone fruits, a floral bouquet, but never cloying or too heady. Perfect balance of unctuouness with just a flash of acid to even things out. I'm not sure if this is one to experiment with ageing. It lacks the mineral tension …
