Duorum, Old Vines Reserva, Douro

14% vol Very deep ruby Dense nose, compact. Feels creamy not overtly oaky. Considered. Poised with a dark fruit focus, exotic woods, subtle perfume and hints of gummy blue/black/red fruits. Creamy quality with hints of beef (!?) and camphor Good freshness, some density and cream/silk, lifted and open. Very easy tannins with a little sandy texture and fine grip. Attractive, rounded, but where will it go… does it lack an edge?

Disappointed. Was expecting more. This wine was elected as one of the best Portuguese wines, and has a very famous winemaker, from Casa Ferreirinha (Barca Velha). I have one more bottle to taste.

Very good now. Will be better in 4 to 5 yers. . .

Decanter Fine Wine Encounter (The Landmark Hotel, London) : Still maturing in the barrel, this wine was especially bottled for this tasting. Made from old vines, it is displaying great fruit character, colour and structure, but I can understand why the producer expects it to spend another 12 months in the barrel.
