Similar to other notes this really rewarded an hour slow ox before drinking. Med ruby nice piney berry notes on the nose. Palate med acid, full body, nicely integrated and singing. Raspberries and pine forest floor. Likely at peak with no real signs of slowing. One of the highest alcohol wines I’ve ever had at 16.4% though you wouldn’t know it based on how it’s drinking now. Shows how great zin can be.

I was expecting this wine to have died a most pitiful death after 22 years, however after letting it sit and breathe for an hour I was pleasantly surprised that it held up and continued to get better as the evening went on. It showed some age on the palate as well as the taste. The visual was extremely brick in color. Turley makes some exceptional wines and this compliment comes from someone who doesn’t usually drink Zins. If I …

Slight amber rim while still mostly dark. Dark dark aromas. Plums and charred beef with some freshly cracked black pepper. More mellow than the nose suggests. Jucy, spicy and sexy. Waxy. Super long. At first I thought past prime but woke up fast.

Starting from our notes in aug -17: colour same, bq has more of medicinal herbs, as well as sweeter, jammier fruit - Rhone simile no longer applies. Body fruit more jammy (cloudberries?) and slightly receding - alcohol more noticeeable now. Still long aftertaste, still a great Zin, but if we had more bottles, we'd drink them soon.

It's fascinating to me to see 41% of the Community Holdings in this wine is "In Cellars"; this says a lot about Turley Zins from the turn of this century. This wine was an amazing example of Zin's potential. Consumed with bleu cheese, and a meatball sandwich drenched in red pepper marinara, the balance of fruit, tannins, and acidity made for a perfect meal. I would not have believed this wine was 18 years old. Because of its age and …

Really quite yummy, still. My only bottle - purchased 9 years ago. I like it a lot. A little Amarone-like but, amazingly, no real heat despite a listed alcohol level of 16.4%!

Totally agree with prior note by JPBACH136. Expected wine to be cooked or at least fruitless. Still had good color, great fruit, pepper and blackberry overtones. Very pleasant surprise. Glad I have 3 bottles remaining, Stunning wine for the original price point and age.

expected an alcohol dominated funky mess but this bottle was in perfect balance. great acidity, lots of black and red fruit, pleasant white pepper and spice. mouthfilling grainy tannin. on second night it was verging on elegant. more old Rhone than California. had I decanted it would have shown far better but I expected one for the drain.

Opaque red-blackish, edge clearing. Large bq w blackberries, garrigue, pepper, some oak - not unlike a Southern Rhone! Still plenty of black fruit, high acidity, well integrated tannins. Very long aftertaste with not much change in taste from the middle (well, some alcohol, but not as much as 16,4% would indicate). A very balanced wine, almost elegant, despite all its power. Great wine! Not old yet, probably at peak.

Super ripe and sweet, compared to a California port style. Crème de cassis, fig and raisin notes. Time to drink up as acidity was minimal.

Amazing that this wine was 13 years old! I had put away and stopped drinking my Turley wines and have recently started to drink my remaining ones. Still lots of fruit and glycerin, and a medium long finish. This may not be what a young Turley Zin tastes like, but what it has evolved into was very tasty!

Two separate bottles over a three week period, the second surprisingly opaque (colour rather like a dark berry smoothie) but both with similar qualities - power, length, complexity. This for me will get better still.

Tasting like a quality Aussie shiraz, with gobs of blackberry fruit to it; almost over the top in its ripeness but just enough acidity to balance it out; shockingly, lots of life left

I didn't take notes on it, except that it has gone beyond my preference window for it. By some standards, it is still holding up well - dark color, complex nose of dark fruits, but I found it a bit shrill and having lost the roundness of flavor that I would have enjoyed.

Just the right time to drink this wine. We were looking for something to drink with cornish hen and sausage/prune/walnut stuffing. The Turley was powerful, with a nose of pepper and strong blackcurrant notes. We drank it right after uncorking, and it was great immediately and didn't change much through the meal. The wine was not at all astringent, and had great structure. We've cellared this wine for about two years and decided to bring it up for this meal. …

My last bottle...Pop and pour...still showing a dark purple with a tart red berrie nose and a little spice in the back ground. Ready to go...still firm, but more than approachable with a medium entry and firm mid palate grip of fruit that while tasty...was almost a little fat. Still held together by a non obtrusive frame...drink up.
