Meyer-Nakel, Dernauer Pfarrwingert Spatburgunder GG, Ahr

Deutsche Pinot Noten schimmern durch, sind aber nur anfangs im Vordergrund. Geschliffen klare Frucht, sehr präsente Säure, komplex und mit enormer Länge. Dem vor einem Jahr verkosteten 2009er etwas unterlegen, dennoch ein großer Wein. Ich wiederhole mich, das aber sehr gerne: eine längere Lagerung tut Ahr Weinen wirklich sehr gut.

No formal notes. Medium body, fruit forward, balanced. Nice stuff!! I only wish I had more.

Trying out new Zalto Burgundy glasses. Surprised to see the ABV is 14% on this bottle - clearly a ripe year. Frühburgunder is the same as Pinot Noir Précoce. In theory it brings early-ripening character to the wine..... so increased ripeness but perhaps less complexity due to decreased hang-time. In this showing I can tell just about zero difference between this and Spätburgunder/Pinot Noir proper. Lovely scents of Germanic pinot with wild strawberry and plum fruit, smoke and sous-bois. A private lunch (Restaurant Hofgarten, Dernau, Germany) : Not nearly as voluptuous or opulent as the Kräuterberg, but the kinship is immediately evident. The minerality is slightly more pronounced, it is more floral too and matbe just a little more precise? The balance is impeccable, the wine is rich yet very elegant, supple yet structured, complete and detailed, more silk than satin.
