Domaine de Maubernard Bandol

Softer than a couple of years ago but not overly more complex. Think I almost preferred slightly younger. Maybe it’s in a middle phase.

Rather big, with some rustic edges, but it's certainly not a bruiser and surprisingly approachable for a Bandol. Dark fruits edging on cooked territory, with coal dust, charcoal, and a touch of tapenade. Mid-palate is a bit chunky, but it settles down on the finish with some nice grippy tannins that don't overpower. It will definitely benefit from further ageing, but with a good decant, is drinking nicely now.

Relatively straightforward, good amount of grip with tannin - a little drying. Med acidity. Cooked red fruit turned smoky on the second day.
