Cala Winemaker Takeover (Jolie-Laide, Scar of the Sea, Jaimee Motley (Cala, SF) : This is so, so, so good and vibrant. Slight wax. Slight nectarine. Lemon-lime, mandarin orange, tart apple. Balanced on the palate - slightly elevated alcohol with appropriately high acid. Beautiful and extended finish with grapefruit candle notes. Possible lees? There’s a hint of bread crust.

I am so incredibly disappointed with this wine. The wine offers very little on the nose and can only be described as juice on the pallet. I so very much wanted to enjoy this California Chenin, but am now angry that I bought 4 bottles out of complete lack of judgement on my part. Given the pedigree of this wine, I was looking forward to an interesting "New California" Chenin, but with little expectation of how that might actually manifest. Alas, I found this to be close to undrinkable, making my first taste of a Jaimee Motley wine profoundly disappointing. I wish that she hadn't released this wine, recognizing the quality problem and swallowed the error and started over. She didn't and now I doubt the judgement of this new winemaker. I will be …
