Probably a year or two too late to the party TBH. Deep ruby red/mahogany colour. Aromas of blackcurrant, pencil shavings, vanilla, a hint of game / meat and a green not (as picked out by others) like crushed raspberry and redcurrant leaves. The blackcurrant and damson plum fruit is fading, but still just about clinging on. Refreshing acidity and soft tannins. But, there's just a bit too much of those crushed currant leaves interfering.

Final bottle from a half case purchased en primeur in 2010. Pristine condition, perfect level and cork. Decanted for two hours. Solid, sombre colour; light nose, a whiff of red berry fruit, some spicy oak and a hint of earth, a sense of dryness; the palate displays a lovely creamy, silky elegance, it's soft and supple, with resolved tannins, but the whiff of vanilla feels like make-up; the finish is green and lacks flavour. I gave my final bottle another …

Pale at the edges. Insignificant nose. Well made though flat flavours. After 2 hours sharp tannins emerging. Fine initially but lacks charm. Will not last. Do others find the lesser 09’s disappointing?

Appearance: deep ruby. Light brick rim Nose: dark fruit, cassis, blackberries, leather Palate: dry, medium tannin, medium+ acidity, full body, 13% alcohol, medium+ finish Conclusions: 1hr decant + aerated. Nose is a bouquet of dark fruit, plums, little oak, leather. Integrated tannin, pleasant acidity. Another hour in and it really opened up. Notorious 2nd wine at a decent QPR. Very good 90-91

This has really improved over the past year, and I believe it still has 2-4 years of bottle life remaining. There was virtually no sediment on the bottle and only very fine sediment in the last couple pours. The fruit has really emerged balanced by the cedar and leather not. Wonderful balance, complexity and med-long finish.

Chocolate, flowers, cherries, mint, and cigar wrapper opens the perfume. The medium-bodied palate is even better with its silky, fresh, soft, expression of Cabernet. The wine finishes with a touch of salt, which only makes you want to take another sip. The wine blends 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, and 5% Cabernet Franc. 13% ABV. Drink from 2025-2040. 92-94 Pts.

Friday Group Brown Bag Tasting (R&D’s) : Double blind. Deep color with a bouquet that shows Bordeaux from the start. Iron, black fruit, tobacco and dried herbs with forest floor undertones. Full-bodied with fine tannins and flavors of black fruit, cigar tobacco and mineral. Graphite and cedar elements emerge with air. Lovely. (R&D)

Wine was cellared at 12 degrees since release and is still youthful .Decanted. Nose of blackberries and mint with a hint of pencil lead. Towards the end of the meal more black fruits with a hint of burnt caramel. Chewy good balance with a long finish. Should be drinking well over the next five years (for well cellared bottles)

Red/black. Lovely complex aroma of plums, pencil lead, tobacco, gingerbread, pine and nutmeg. A little smokey. Lovely flavours of oak, apple, vanilla, blackcurrant, cinnamon, clove and ginger. Very fine. Slightly hot alcohol just now. Should improve.

Last of six (6). Displays dense core of black fruits, plum, currant, blackberry along with notes of dark chocolate, coffee, and pencil shavings. Definitely has turned the corner though with tertiary notes poking out. Drink now!

Just lovely. On opening, surprisingly strong - blackcurrant fruit to the fore. Then decanted thru Rabbit 2 hours prior to drinking. Complete, complex and most enjoyable. Just slightly thin/vegetable. No need to wait. Perhaps PnP next time?

This is a great second wine. It’s just about to round the bend from secondary to tertiary. This still has a nice freshness and lift, but the complexity is clearly second wine level and not grand cru. Lovely for a weeknight dinner.

Pretty funky right out of the gate but it blew off nicely in about 30 mins after opening. No decant. Melow nose of leather, grilled green pepper, cigar box, mineral/graphite. Mouth of mild tart red cherry, spice, woodsy notes, medium dry finish with nice tannic balance. Overall a really nice wine. Happy we have 2.

An eclectic lineup including a 2002 Valbuena, 2013 Kosta Browne Gap's Crown Pinot, 2016 SamiOdi Hoffman Dallwitz Shiraz, and 2009 LeMacchiole Paleo. Really quite an amazing and unique nose immediately from cork pop. Baked cinnamon apples, youthful black fruit, tar and saddle leather all here. Finishes with a fair amount of black pepper and youthful qualities. Nothing savory about this one, which is probably the reason why I enjoyed it! I really don't know what I was expecting with this …

From a magnum. One-hour decant through a screened and aerating funnel. Some sediment left on the screen, but more left on the shoulder of the bottle. Mature Bordeaux nose of saddle leather, leaves, and muted black fruits during decant. After resting, wine was clear; garnet bowl lightening towards amber on the rim with a small halo. Nose of leather, tobacco, cedar and red fruits. Tannins all smoothed out but acid remained. Wonderful balance; very smooth in the mouth. Medium-long finish …

Treasurer's Dinner at ICC, Party Conference, Birmingham. ?Back decanted. In my view perfectly ready. A melange of à point dark berries and red fruits suffused with pencil shavings brought into better focus by a (?bell pepper) acidity. Medium bodied. Excellent (just). Now till 2024.

A rich crimson red color. Some signs of age. Nose of black and red cassis, blackberry, and flowers (quite floral really). On the palate, similar dark red and black fruit flavors with a velvety texture and with ripe but still quite present tannins with a core of acidity that gives the wine nice lift and balance. Medium bodied and with good length Drinking very well right now. Think this will hold, but is in a great place and not sure …

On opening I found a nose of straw mushrooms and soy. Later stewed prunes and slightly cloudy blackberry. The greenness of the vintage then started to come through with green peppers. Some muted fruit and softened tannins fought with a little mustiness. After two hours or so, redcurrants. This is a very good ribena. An interesting experience amongst a selection of old bottles I recently picked up in auction. Few distinguishing features of Pauillac remain but this is still pleasant. …

It's been more than ten years since I last tasted it, time does fly very quickly! Dark red in colour, nose of mineral brambly fruits, a little thin on the palate but you can tell this is a high-quality grape in it, hate to say it after all these years of ageing, tannic and young! Quite a remarkable stuff! Still many years of life ahead!

This has always been a favorite bottle for me, from several different vintages. What a value this was back in the day. Always reminds me of breaking an antique chair around May Elaine Lencquesaing's dining table over a memorable lunch after tasting at the chateau. The 2001 is still holding nicely at full maturity. Loads of roasted black currant, grilled meat and charred new oak. Medium-full bodied and very savory. This is delicious and fresh with excellent palate presence. Lencquesaing …

Impressive and hitting a nice stride right now. Classical Bordeaux in style with layers of black fruit, black tea, leather, and some green aspects. Medium bodied with a decent amount of richness in the mid palate to finish. Fine and silky tannins. Better than expected, a very nice bottle showing some early mature characteristics. I would drink this now or over the next few years. Really digging 2001 Bordeaux wines at this part of the evolution.
