Stealth Wines: Lesser-Known Varietals (Farpointe Cellar) : The nose had lemon, lime, mango, and banana. The palate was crisp, and had pineapple, mango, lime, and banana peel.

enjoyed this, as others mention sort of like a SB but not quite, definite petrol a bit on the finish. Went well with thai food. Will compare to the Marquis Phillips Holly's blend which is half the price as the 'dooker.

This Verdalho (a Portuguese grape) showed a great nose of wet stone, citrus and apple. On the palette the wine was an explosion of tropical fruits and pineapple, with a very smooth texture and a great finish. This was my first time having this but definitely will not be the last! Was a great wine for the food, especially with a chimichanga. (Also posted on foodandwineblog.com)

My first MD wine....very tropical with pineapple, white peach fruit; big dose of bone dry alcohol, intense crisp citrus acidity and minerals. Nice floral spice, some gingerbread, lemon tarts, banana liqueur. The alcohol heat is WAY too much...does try to cream it up some, and I like the waxiness...but the burn is there on the finish. Reminds me of a cross between a Conundrum and a bone dry Pinot Grigio. This is a cocktail wine for sure. I like it, …

Nice noise and initial taste on the palate, but then incredible alcoholic heat.

Popped and poured. A big disappointment from a good producer. A lighter version of an NZ SB, but loads on petrol and heat on the finish and aftertaste.

Strong Floral nose with Pinapple and a little white pepper. Sneaks up on you with it's high alcohol content as it is well integrated and doesnt taste hot at all.

January BYOB Event - January 20th, 2007 (Belo and Margaret Shelton's Home) : This verdelho had a light straw color and on the nose reminded me of a sauvignon blanc with citrus and tropical flavors being quite prominent. On the palate, this wine coated my mouth with flavors of apples, pears, and marshmallow (I know that sounds weird, but this wine stuck out for that very reason). A fun white and definitely a great value at $13.99. HS90

Nice stuff. I must admit, I was initially a little scared by the 15% alcohol, but this wine is in balance. A nose of apricot, lemon, and melon. Smooth attack with medium acidity and a very sweet finish. I paired it with popcorn shrimp, Maryland crab cake, and Indian rice (cardamom, saffron, clove, cinnamon, and onions). It paired nicely with all, but best, surprisingly for me at least, with the Indian rice.

Tropical fruits, ripe but not out of balance. Reminds me of an ultra-ripe New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc.

Tropical Fruits, long flavor profile that's fun/challenging to figure out - it starts very straight forward, but like the other taster mentioned, changes quite a bit. Only my second wine of this variety, but I liked it quite a bit. Highly recommended, particularly for the price.

Outstanding bottle of Verdelho from Australia. Opened it to try it out with Thanksgiving dinner, and went well with the turkey. Notes of apples and pears, beeswax and honey. Very smooth finish and not overpowering at all from the alcohol. Crisp and clean.

interesting. begins on the nose like a fruit-heavy (but not sweet) sauvignon blanc. Decent acidity levels and distinct tropical elements on the palate. The finish is where things get tricky. After what seems mild and pretty straightforward, there's a strange pucker/sour finish that is almost acrid but not unpleasant. It's like a curveball filled with unexpected spice -- and I can imagine if one weren't pairing this with food, it would be shockingly unpleasant. But we were eating at an …

My first experience with this varietal. Rather pale in color, smells and tastes like a combination of a white rhone and a california sauvignon blanc. If that sounds a bit odd...well, it is. Starts with an explosion of apricot and finishes with grapefruit. Hmm. Quite interesting, and a good wine for the price.

Pretty amazing. Color is golden; wine is not viscous, but not thin. Taste is reminiscent of federweissen (sp?), the new wine one can buy along the Nahe that is very young and rambunctuous. That is this wine as well. Strong presence of green apples, grapefruit, and acidity, and yet this is defnitely not a reisling. There is a distinct sour note here, but it is refreshing. Very interesting wine.
