Nice traditional burgundy style pinot noir in the sense that it puts more emphasis on finesse and fruit rather than power. Transparent ruby red with signs of bricking on the edges. The nose is red fruit, mainly cherry, floral, probably violet, underbrush and light spice. Fairly balanced, just the right level of acidity, low tannins, nice persistence. Went very well with slow roasted pork. Won�t keep my last bottle more than 2 years.

PnP. Under natural cork. Deep ruby red. On the palate the wine shows aromas of red cherry of all kind (fresh fruit, cherry liquor, cherry jam), Asian spice with minor notes of reduction (sour dough) and charred wood at the background. On the palate, that ripe red cherry again. The acidity feels a little prominent. On the leaner side, however there are some substance and density too. Perfectly decent stuff for Chianti / Brunello aficionados, but where is Pinot Noir …

Bu en succ. Un peu rustique et tertiaire. Sur la terre et les cerises avec un peu de cuir et d'hummus. Assez long et avec un peu de chauffe. Pas vraiment dans mes gouts!

La robe est rubis foncée dense. Un nez de viande, œillet d'Inde, un peu de réduction et sauvage. La bouche est sur le même registre avec de la viande, champignon, terre. C'est bizzare mais je ne suis pas sûr d'aimer mais j'ai bu la bouteille en le temps de le dire.

2021 Martinborough weekend with Kai, Marion and friends (Wairarapa, NZ) : Served double blind with the Dugat-Py. A bouquet of Asian and Indian spices, bonfire smoke, raspberries and red cherries. On palate, I had this wine as appealing, elegant, relatively young red Burgundy. Not as classy as the Cathiard, but good. Strawberries and raspberries with red cherries, very savoury, showing warm earth notes. Also, wet brushwood and dried herbs. I did not pick this wine as a Wairarapa pinot.

Dark ruby colour. On the nose, dense, ripe red fruit, cherries, forest raspberries. On the palate, again ripe red fruit, some spice, though earth-dominated. Medium-bodied with a fine finish. Lacks a bit of freshness and acidity in my view. Keep for a few years.

Beautiful Pinot with a super seductive and intense spicy cherry nose...it's voluptuous. A little leaner, with very distinctive aromas of cloves on the palate. Impressive length, balanced and very fresh. Would be great with salmon or grilled BBQ chicken.

2018 Long Sunday Lunch on the Langhe : I paired the Felton Road with the Schubert to show the difference between Bannockburn, Central Otago and Martinborough Pinot Noir terroir. 2015 was an excellent vintage in Martinborough, as it was in Central. Served blind. People noted the more restrained, earthy, brambly, less fruit forward aromatics of the Schubert, typical of Martinborough. On palate as well, the Schubert showed more evident stuffing and structure than the Felton Road with notes of black …

Noisy New Zealanders (Prince Sydney, 40 Hansard Street) : Coffee, red cherry, sweet spice….regulation ripe pinot nose. More of the same on the palate. Touch off-dry. Well made but defo not for me.
