Bought this just as another representative 2005 Bordeaux to help celebrate an anniversary. Glad I did. Enticing nose of red fruit, cedar and floral notes like violets. On the palate the wine is mature red fruit and blackberry and some cinnamon spice. Tannins are supple, good acidity and a spicy 5-10 seconds finish. Enjoy now but easily has another decade of life.

Wine never fails to amaze. First time of drinking this wine for 13 years and I was expecting dried out and gone, after all this is effectively, and did become, the second wine of Lynch-Bages, and 20 years old. What we actually got was dark ruby with minimal bricking, nice balance of plummy fruit and tertiary cedar on the nose, and mellow, tannin light but sufficient with acidity to ensure an enjoyable drinking experience with barbecued meat.

Crystal, clear, bright, dark, garnet color. Cinnamon and assorted spices on the nose with red fruit. Drinks like an aged Chateauneuf with the fruits and spices mix . Tannic, oak-accented finish that goes on a long time. More interesting on the nose than to drink.

Monthly Tasting Group HWS: Bordeaux 2005 vs 2009 (by DJ) : In the bouquet dark berries and vanilla, cedar, sweet spices and good oak. On the palate Juicy dark and red berries, some graphite, chocolate and tobacco, fresh acidity and tannin with still a good bite. Beautiful wine with still a few years of future.

Nose is loaded with dark fruit. Its smells rich and deserving of the venison faggots. On the palate the black cherry comes through with cedar and cigar box, leather and hints of spice. There is some chocolate and liquorice in there too. Soft tannins and medium acidity. This is drinking now and I'm not sure I'd leave it much longer. Needed a hour to breathe. From 2008 onwards, this 2nd label wine is known as Echo.

Double decanted then slo-oxed for about 2 hours. Might be better to decant for 1+ hours, as the initial tannins need to integrate. Initial aromas of dark red and black fruits, plus cedar, blossomed during aeration. These same notes showed on the initial palate, along with medium tannins. After aeration, the tannins integrated very nicely to provide structure, and the dark cherry, blue and blackberry flavors, along with some spice, were perfectly balanced with acidity. Spent three days with this refined, well-made wine that drinks nicely with lots of air and should hold for several years. I agree with others that that this is a nicely built, but thin, Pauillac. We decanted it almost three hours and were surprised how much this became, briefly, a "baby" Lynch-Bages. For about an hour, it was wonderful, but then it quickly ran out of steam.

Blind tasted, and the rich nose of black current was almost a red herring had the subtle funk not showed up. Obviously old world and Bordeaux, but there was a moment of reflection. The palate was delicious and accessable, as well as being moderately complex with hits of baking spice and leather. What was black fruit on the nose was more dried black fruit on the palate. A little leaner than I would have liked, but a solid wine.

Monthly Tasting Group HWS #078; Bordeaux 2005 (by DJ) : Creamy and buttery, still very youthful bouquet. On the palate creamy as well and also powerful dark berry fruits. A firm amount of acidity and tannin. Good potential. I disagree with the drinking window in CT (which is 2010 - 2017 at the moment). I think 2017 is a nice moment to start drinking this and at least for 5 years after that.

Solid Claret - initially a little hard and pruney but it seemed to relax after a full one hour open decanting - good tannic structure and slightly dryish but also nice earthy blackberry flavours and a decent length - overall a more than acceptable Claret but given the vintage I might have expected a little more excitement

This bottle was distinctly poorer than my previous tasting - dull fruit and slightly sharp acidity were an unwelcome presence - the tannins seemed well integrated and the wine finished quite nicely.

Attractive bouquet with a lot of cassis, black cherries, leather, licorice and a pleasant dose of oak. This is a lovely,soft, drinkable Bordeaux that has nice black plum fruit. It is quite ready now and the soft tannins give way to a fine complexity on the finish. By no means serious Bordeaux but a wonderful match for the aged ribeye at Quality Meats, NYC.
