Notes of dried strawberry, leather, spice, and cedar. Needs more time.

PNP. Lighter color in the glass. Red and black fruit on the nose, with a boatload of menthol. Lighter body and mouthfeel, with plenty of fruit. Acid is M- and tannin M. M- on the finish. Technicals aside, Virginia does interesting things with familiar grapes and this is no exception. It lacks the acid and tannin structure, but is still enjoyable and holds its own at a meal. Decent at this price.

Another surprise. I really had very very low expectations for this wine, and truth be told, bought it more as a gag gift for a friend who likes "real" Nebbiolo (close your eyes and tell me where this is from.....). At $30 in the local Charlottesville Costco it wasn't cheap (too many mediocre Virginia wines aren't) so I really was going out there to spend this much just to make a point that you can't get good/decent/real nebbie from a …

Super interesting wine, and a very good representation of the nebbiolo grape. I can’t believe this vineyard is in Virginia! Sweet tobacco, lots of smoke and flowers on the nose. Tannins singing loudly at the end! Great wine for a casual week night and a great QPR! Will definitely be buying future vintages of this

Medium plus nose shows red plum, cherry, rose petals, fresh herbs. Palate is surprisingly grippy, fruit is fresh, but this needs food, drinks similar to a Northern Piedmont Nebbiolo, props there. Cool wine, not sure how to sell it.

Smoke, flowers, sweet tobacco, leather dominate the nose, but body is quite light. Bright acidity and crisp finish. Seemed a bit disjointed and watery at first but decanting helps immensely.

Barboursville Vineyards (at the winery with Luca Paschina) : Some volatile acidity on the nose, a serious effort, licorice, structure, very nice but I fear it is a little to soft in the middle to achieve the long and beautiful life of the 2004 vintage tasted side by side.
