This is now fully mature, and quite gloriously so, packed with all the classic Burgundy aromatics starting with a whiff of the barnyard, porcinis or some similar earthy element, and sweet maple sap running the whole spectrum from sweet to savory. Surprising how much it's developed since my prior bottle just a few years ago as it's now entered the phase of being totally post-fruit. But the material it's become still has plenty of richness and surface gloss as well …

Excellent bottle of Les Amoureuses. The texture is finely knit, as Les Amoureuses should be, but it's more powerful than most - not the leaner, lighter, more waifish Musigny that many of them are, but rather being much closer to Musigny itself in terms of its scale, density, and solidity as well as in some of the darker gravelly flavors that figure in. The last Amoureuses I had from Frederic Magnien (2002) was too oaky, in fact my notes say …

Pale ruby red color with an elegant floral and cherry bouquet- this is very pretty. Cherry, mineral and earth qualities on the palate. Fully-integrated and balanced, and again, very pretty. 92+ pts.

Wine was paper filtered and decanted leaving a fair amount of sediment in the filter (thick at the bottom) and yielding a bright ruby red liquor with faint signs of bricking at the edges. This was the third of three bottles of this we tried in the past 3 weeks and this bottle was by far the best: excellent nose of red fruits, berries and a mild "barnyard" undertone at first; wonderful bright red fruit flavors - cherries, strawberries, and …

Agree with CalBear on this one-funkiness to borderline corky-hopefully an aberration

This wine is drinking fairly well now. It doesn't have a lot of fruit, but the fruit is still present. Perhaps a bit vegetal, but it doesn't ruin the experience. Probably entering its peak around now...

Filling in w/the Friday Brown Bag Group (Rich & Dana's) : Pale ruby color, bricking a bit at the edge. Notes of herbs, cherry, red licorice and maybe garrigue? Developed a meaty quality with air and lost some of the herbal garrigue-like notes. Soft, subtle red fruit tones on the palate, finishing with a subtle smoky quality. Nice acidity carrying through the finish. First whiff had me leaning toward southern Rhone, but as it evolved in the glass it was …

Not sure about this one. Clear ruby color, funky nose at first that opened and softened after an hour, flavors of sour cherries and raspberries predominate, acids well integrated, a little vegetal and lean on moderately long finish.

Very dark color. Nose not too expressive with some oak. Palate sweet, much too sweet for my tastes. I really don't like this style. Another nail in the Magnien coffin as far as I'm concerned. My discrete CellarTracker scale: 95-extraordinary; 90-very good; 85-good; 80-fair; 75-poor
